Hellebuyck's contract has little to no signing bonuses, flexible NTC, majority of the money in the first half of the contract. Let's hope that Conroy follows this model rather than the Huberdeau contract.

I would significantly rather have Schiefele over Lindholm. 7x7.5 max. We'll see how he plays this year but if pre season is any indication even 7.5 is way too rich.

Schiefele had 1 point in the preseason

I dont think teams put too much stock into it

...doing so on non-elite players, that's where the real trouble sets in. I like the Hellebuyck contract more than the Scheifele deal.

All that said, I'd trade the Flames roster for the Jets roster. I imagine they'll get Connor, Ehlers, Iafallo, and Vilardi all done in the next 6-10 months as well. I also think drafting Barlow was a huge win for the Jets.

I can't argue with this. If Lindholm had Scheifele's offensive production, I probably wouldn't be as terrified of the Flames extending him...but he doesn't, and I think that's one of the reasons the Flames shouldn't extend him.
The Flames roster with bad Markstom, coaching, everything was 2 points worse than the Jets roster with Hellebuyck

You crap on the Flames all summer for the thought of signing 30 years olds that haven't got it done and are positive about the Jets? weird

I like the Scheifele deal for the same reasons, being a Flames fan and not a Jets fan

Why would you "significantly" prefer Schiefele? He's a one-dimensional player with zone starts heavily skewed to the offensive zone who hasn't had a PPG season since 2018-19. Lindholm is at least Schiefele's equal at this point in their careers.

What are you talking about? Shiefele has been PPG 6 of the last 7 seasons. Last season wasn't, but still got 42 goals.

One dimensional, yes. But at least get your facts right.

These deals likely age poorly and the Jets likely finish outside the playoffs or maybe win a round at best during the length of the deals. Sounds awfully familiar.

Missed the number of games played. If he was a Flame, people on this site would call him a “fragile” player who “can’t keep healthy”. I would certainly worry about him following a Monahan-like trajectory given how many consecutive seasons he missed a significant number of games, and the last full season he played he was at 0.8 PPG. Could fall off a cliff at any time. I don’t imagine this contract will age as well as Huberdeau’s, and none of us expect that to be a value contract in the back half.

Predicting a team's (lack of) success for the next 8 years - yes, that does sound familiar

Whining about someone else's opinion also sounds familiar.

According to CapFriendly it doesn't look like Scheifele has one but Hellebuyck does.

I imagine you’re joking, but every player wants one, even if they want out. It gives them control.

Winnipeg is in the same situation as the Flames. They committed to a team they tried to build 10 years ago and despite not really getting over the hump they have went all in despite signs they should consider a rebuild. On one have you have 2 cornerstone guys who are willing to commit for pretty fair value but on the other hand you have a bubble team who have raises to guys who likely won’t increase their value in the years that come.

When the Jets made the deal with Dubois where they got mostly win now pieces in return I suppose this makes sense from their perspective.

And the desire to keep the team good enough to be middling and make money and fear of fair weather fans and loss revenue in a Canadian market will keep both of them there.

This is so depressingly true.
