I misread your initial point, yes you were not comparing the two, my apologies. In a world where one did choose one path and could sign young talent and old talent to longterm deals there is one that is riskier with both carrying risk.

On the flip side players would then be able to hold out for more money when they start to outperform their deals. Lindholm a couple years in would have been able to holdout for 7-8M. Knowing the NHL GM’s they will start throwing around guaranteed money like they do NTC’s today
