We all know the reason PW made that comment, but because it was so clumsily delivered we have the brigade of posters ready to swoop in and defend the guy slicking back his hair and slopping up his steaks.

He's still a piece of ####.

It's weird that Carolina can tolerate this guy where other teams can't. I suppose it's not a lot different than the Oilers signing Kane.

1.6 = 1/6 or January 6th having your contract be a nod to that incredible stuff.

So I don’t see what the stances of Fleury, Stastny, etc. have to do with being hockey players. Why would we expect that NHLer’s aren’t representative of the demographic they’re drawn from? It’s only because they’ve been coached by their agents and team PR handlers to keep their politics to themselves that we don’t hear this stuff more often from NHLers. (And no, I don’t share those politics myself).

* “what the people taking part in the truck protests in Ottawa have said and done is wrong and does not deserve any of our sympathy.” 39 per cent of 18-34 year old Canadians agreed with this statement.

What’s not clear to you?

NHL players are overwhelmingly 18-34 year old white men. It’s reasonable to assume they have the social and political outlooks of typical 18-34 year old white men. Which means far more of them align with the populist right than people around here seem to assume. It has nothing to do with hockey or hockey culture itself, as GioForPM asserted.

This is true in general, but in DeAngelo's cases there are a ton of signs the guy may just be a bit of a dummy. Fighting with teammates, getting suspended for using slurs in junior, etc. Even openly talking about that brand of politics has probably cost him money.

None of what I said had to do with hockey culture. It had to do with education and having a sizable population of easily led people. I suspect most of the people in that movement had similar education and were similarly easily led.

Forgot how much I missed the multi-paragraph, public-poll-supported Cliff posts that accidentally say the same thing as the person he was trying to disagree with.

Ya, well...I suppose we'll just have to agree to agree on this one.
