I think Zadorov for Duclair straight up could work as well. Maybe Florida adds a late round pick.

So, Hanifin isn't going to Chicago for their 1st in '23, '24, and '25 as well as Boris Katchouk, oh and Seth Jones as a throw-in?
Huh.

I think this is the most likely scenario. You aren’t gonna get full value for Hanifin from Florida.

I’d be fine with that. Zadarov will likely price himself into a contract that I wouldn’t want

Florida has no picks to make a Hanifin deal work in a futures trade and straight up for Duclair would be embarrassing.
Trading Zadorov for Duclair makes sense, but it makes less sense when Hanifin wants out we wont have anyone left to play defence.

Hanifin is in a different stratosphere. Without any first round picks for the foreseeable future, conversation starts at Lundell, or equivalent.
|
Looks like the Flames might be focused on a new top like if certain players are leaving. Huberdeau needs to play with guys who fit into his style of play.

I suppose Craig Conroy would know a thing or two about finding the right player to ride shotgun with a special talent.

Ew, happy to not trade with the Panthers at all. They have rinsed us multiple times now. No firsts for hanifin would be a huge failure

If they did something around Lindholm for Girard, Newhook, pick and then flipped Zadorov for Duclair that would make some sense. Flames would have Weegar, Andersson, Girard in the top 3 and Kylington/Tanev in the 4/5 slot potentially alternating. Still a strong blueline.
Move Hanifin, Toffoli, and Vladar for picks and roll into the season with Backlund, Tanev, Kylington as possible rentals or guys to extend mid year. See if the team has big bounce back years and competes for a playoff spot or have the ability to have some premium rentals to continue the retool

You really don't like Dube, do you...
Backlund won't be here to start the year, I can almost guarantee that.

Whoops forgot about him.
Trade Backs for Picks and try and ride Dube as the #2C. That team would likely struggle to compete

What about Tanev for Duclair? If Hanifin is too much, Tanev for Duclair makes sense.

That should be the target. Grabbing players in their mid-late 20s just keeps this team directionless.

Well, no. It's just not the direction you would prefer. I think it is abundantly clear that Conroy very reasonably believes this roster can compete for the Division. So if he can extend Lindholm, and parlay Hanifin and Toffoli into usable pieces for the foreseeable future, that is probably what he will do, and it is not at all a bad idea.

Based on what evidence do you think it is reasonable to believe the Calgary Flames can compete with the Stanley Cup Champions for the division? Or the team that destroyed them in the 2nd round of the playoffs the year before?
Leading goal scorer Tyler Toffoli has requested a trade.
2nd in minutes/game defenceman Noah Hanifin has informed the team he has a desire to return to his home country.
Worst starting goalie in the league last season, who in their time here averages out to a pretty mediocre goaltender.

Hockey trades for pending UFAs are awfully hard to get full immediate value.
So, yes, futures are absolutely what they should be exploring.

This place is seriously brutal right now. Some folks just saying the same negative crap over and and over. I'll be just searching for the multiply liked posts to see of there is any actual news.
