The classic 1st and 2 2nds return for a Dman but Philly also eats some cap and Peterson is a boat anchor. Will LA sign both their acquisitions from Columbus with this deal? LA in the market for a new goalie?

I'm not sure it does. I feel like them moving 3 straight up for a player was always unlikely and felt that it would require more pieces.

I could still see something like.

Lindholm
16th OV

for

3rd OV
One of Sillinger, Chinakhov, Ceulemans, Meteychuk,
Flames 3rd

For sure Columbus is not going to go pickless in 2023 round one and they just agve up 22nd, so they'd need a pick back. 16 would be pretty attractive, with the prospect of a Gaudreau-Lindholm reunion.

Good work by Briere.

...might be the first time I've said that about a Flyers GM.

Philadelphia trades Ivan Provorov and Hayden Hodgson to Los Angeles in exchange for Cal Peterson, Sean Walker, Helge Grans and the Kings' 2024 second-round pick. Columbus acquires Kevin Connauton from Philadelphia in exchange for a 2023 first-round pick (22nd overall) and conditional second-round pick in either the 2024 or 2025 NHL Draft. Columbus acquires Provorov from Los Angeles in exchange for Connauton.

Philly wins this. 1st, 2nd, middle pairing D prospect, bottom pairing stopgap D man and 2 years of paying Peterson a lot of money to back up, for a guy they didn't want and a 27 year old AHLer.

feels like a pretty rare win-win-win to me. Philly gets draft capital, Jackets get a solid defenseman, Kings get cap space. Not bad.

Heard Keith Jones the other day say Philly has completely refocused on rebuilding and prospects this year, they hired 3 new posistions for development of their draft picks and more to come.

Sounds like they are tired of the “re-tool” analogy and going full rebuild mode which is a strong move this draft for sure.

I haven’t seen anyone say they would have expected the same return for Hanifin.

I’d be shocked if CBJ traded for another top-pairing d-man.

So is the win here for LAK just getting out of the Peterson deal?

nah, but they do have Jiricek, Mateychuk, Ceulemans and Svozil in their system. In addition to already having Werenski, Provorov, Gudbranson, Bean, Boqvist etc., I also doubt they'll move for another big-money defenseman any time soon.

I think the Jackets win this deal. I think Provorov is a legit #1 D man in this league, he just has been on god awful Flyer teams. I guess the Flyers did ok if they are tearing it down, some magic beans and some garbage. Not great though considering Provorov's real ceiling. LA got some cap space which is nice.
