Backlund deserves a lot of credit for his years as a Flame, with no harm taken in requesting a trade last summer given the circumstances. Flames should look out for their rebuild best interest and explore it this summer if it means getting a reasonable return. You think the guy would stick around for just the C? No chance. Let him go and get a return that works out better than sticking a C on his chest.
