He’s a good journalist. And the Flames are an absolute mess. So there are going to be lots of upset players, agents, and employees leaking good stories. Just the way it is. If the Flames weren’t such a disappointment, there wouldn’t be many stories.

What makes me mad though is that where was this type of emotion all season long? Now that the playoffs are getting out of reach that's when they decide to care? I mean it's game 70 against Dallas and a must win...just proves what type of season they've had. This should have been a game that even if we lost we were happy to get a point because we were comfortably in a playoff spot.
This version of the Flames from a fan perspective (or at least my perspective) has been the worst cast of characters in a long time. So much bs with this group all year long. Whether it's coaching, management, player production, media complaining, agent tweets it's getting to be ridiculous. Fans pay good money to watch this team and the very least you would hope they can put their differences aside and have a common goal to support each other and win games.
It has not been a fun ride and seems like everyday there is some new controversy or crap that we have to put up with. Just win some damn games, play as a team and see what happens. Save the bitching till the off-season. The primary focus should be to get in at this point but instead we have these side stories like lack of coaching communication, stick breaking, player arguing, agent tweeting etc.
I get it, each season as it's own version of distractions and stories (and media reports like this generate interest and likes) but I'm just so tired of this group from top to bottom. Would not upset me in the slightest to tear this down and start fresh. This group is not worth supporting from what I've seen 70 games into the season.

I'm not surprised there's some conflict, and I doubt Friedman made it up (though I'm sure he runs with half baked stories from time to time).
The funny thing to me though was the hint that Kadri is upset with his teammates (how I took it) as if he's been this model of solid play with a cup ring and the rest of the team and the coach has let him down.

Kadri has been one of the worst defensive forwards on the team all year. I was appalled the guy was the Flames All Star rep. He had no business being there.

how did you get "upset with his teammates" from this
Quote:
“Kadri gets benched. It’s a weird benching to me. The one thing I’ll say about Kadri is the best thing about him is… he’s blunt. He’s going to say what’s on his mind,” Friedman said during Monday’s edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast.
“I’ve heard that Kadri’s been very vocal about what he sees going on in Calgary and why the team isn’t firing on all cylinders. And I think he’s been very blunt about just the communication between players and the coach there. I’m betting some of that frustration boiled over in that game on Saturday night. I’m curious to see where this is all gonna go.”

Well, as a born and raised Winnipeger, the North half of the city is a dump. And the core where the arena is located has been taken over by human trash. Once called the Chicago of the north it has been in decline for decades and the Federal Government could care less. Building an Arena downtown was a noble gesture and part of an attempt to rescue and restore the downtown but it’s too close to the most run down areas of the city. Why would you want to play in that building/environment?

i'd imagine inside the dressing room lots of guys are looking at each other saying Wtf dude......i'd have to think we are going to hear about more drama before the season is over
i am going to assume that all journalists stories about a team have some degree of truth to them

seeing Pat's Flames Talk Post Game and listening to Lou pregame, it's really clear that when someone like Friedman, who is out of the market, mentions these issues it frees them up to discuss them. I can appreciate them not wanting to leak or report on them as being so close to the Team and rights holders.

This brings up a good point about the local media, or maybe sports media in a small market in general. Too close to everyone and afraid to ruffle feathers.

Yeah I think it's a small market thing as media in the big US markets and Toronto seem to have no fear of calling out their organizations.

After listening to Boomer on that radio podcast recently it's clear the Oilers are a lot worse but he talked about Ken King calling him and saying ultimately, he didn't mind him ripping the players as long as it's fair.
But I suspect if this as bad as it sounds, it's a different level.

So,
Seravalli.
Friedman.
Steinberg.
and now Boomer have all spoken on this. Here is Boomer on the Barn Burner this morning:
Quote:
What I'm hearing is there are some players that have said "I'm not coming back if this guy is behind the bench - I'm !@#$ing done."
|
This isn't "what is the deal with Elliotte Friedman" this is "what is the deal with the Calgary Flames?"

If those guys refuse to report and we can tear up the contracts, it will be worth it to keep Sutter around. Having said that, they are all talk. No way they actually refuse to report. I could maybe see it with players on expiring deals who are due for raises.

Then please keep Sutter until that happens. We should be so lucky if he could help the Flames be cut loose from those contracts before he goes.

Darryl should've undergone some socialization training while he was away from coaching to help himself.
That time being a recluse on the ranch it appears eroded his already not great people skills.
When they literally have to hire a guy to be the middle man because the guy can't be personable and communicate effectively there's an issue.
