I don't really see it as worst case scenario...they will still have a better pick than the 8 teams that lose in round one and the 15 that don't win the cup. Heck half of those teams won't even have a first at all.
It stings the day the season ends but after a couple first round sweeps it gets better pretty fast. 14-16 in this draft will have plenty of good options.
The only time when its really bad is when you trade your first that year...Panthers, Sens, yikes
I hope the Flames make it and go on a miracle run but honestly I would rather finish 9 than get swept in round one or something. Trading your first and missing the playoffs is the worst case scenario, thankfully that isn't happening.
I think it's worth noting that Ottawa isn't a throw away team.
We only went into this game 1 point up on them. Yes they were tired, but this wasn't just a bottom feeder trying to play spoiler.
Good win! I hope they start to give Marky some extra run support now that he's starting to pick up steam.

Yup, and they also seem to have our number last few seasons. Good to kick the crap out of them on the Scoreboard.
Another Shorthand… I… just have a loss for words now.
Please not the same situation as last time..
PP is cursed.

Nothing worse than already being in a bad mood from that ####ty SH goal against, then that stupid Katy Perry commercial comes on

Three (or four?) straight games with SHG’s aginst. This team rules.

Would be nice to score first one of thsse days

A shortie. The last 14 goals scored on our PP are now 7 for us and 7 against.

This has blowout loss written all over it.

I actually agree.

Good to start the game with a horrendous defensive error.

2 on 1 after a puck battle on the wall is pretty special stuff

Sutter been watching tape. Has forwards hugging the wall on our breakouts and we keep trying to hit the forward at the opposing blue line wall lol. Sealed every time.

Sens are elite at rimming it around the boards with full force

Jesus f***ing Christ again.

at some point, we will stop committing those turnovers, and stop giving up flukey goals. Look out then!!

Annnnnnd another SHG.

The PK is actually doing a better job than the PP. Bonkersville.

Another shorty against. Atrocious. 7 goals for, 7 shorties against since the new new year I think the announcers said?
Single handedly losing games on the Powerplay. The top guys need to have some damn pride with the man advantage.
Don't love the coaching staffs lack of action moving players around, but the players have to outwork the opposing PK unit once and a while.

Pinto literally donates a 2-on-1 in the neutral zone in the middle of a rush and this sub is still blaming Chabot. Guy can't be ####ing everywhere

We’re getting speedbagged again lol. 3 of the last 4 after getting the prized top 4 d man. Thought it was a talent issue back there?

Well, one of these teams is playing desperate hockey to make it into the playoffs. The other seems lost and out of answers.

Yikes. Nothing to like right now. Playing from behind constantly is wearing this team down. Just flat and disjointed.
Quote:
this team is going to drop down the standings hard

Serious question: if we keep giving up these odd man rushes and getting scored on our PP all the time now. And leaving one player constantly alone in front of our net. Is that not coaching issue? Game after game after game now.

Love turning over the puck and the offensive blueline. Always ends well.

Half of our team is already planning their summer vacation. Good thing our pick is top 5 protected. DJ, nice knowing ya, dude. Can’t wait for the real coach to take over this circus. If you tell me that our PP with Stu , Chuky, DeBrincat, Giroux, Batherson, Sanderson etc can’t play better than this, then you really need to consider watching something other than hockey. Again, can’t effing wait for the management/coaching change and to have someone knowledgeable and with guts to stand behind these guys when they’re playing. Enough of this BS.

LOL...we did it again...terrible decisions in the Ozone, to send off a 3 on 1...its starting to get interesting now, how we keep managing to do that
Quote:
The upside to this loss is that I no longer have to be emotionally vested in anything aside from just enjoying a hockey game with no pressure attached to it for the remainder of this season.
But, for next season, I would like to see a different bench boss and a renewed sense of purpose to start the season. The roster looks pretty good, maybe look into some goalie solutions, add a few depth pieces, but jump right in and start scaring some teams.
I feel hopeful for next year. This year can go bugger off already, but next season kind of has me a little bit excited.
Quote:
Well there goes my only wish for Ottawa to be competitive for a full 60 minutes, win or lose.
At this point I don’t even think they want to win, and sending a message that they’re not happy. Well guess what, seeing you guys do this makes the fans unhappy, soooooo screw you. Haha

You're far more optimistic than I am. Division title was out of reach for me since the new year. The only team that seems to be losing every now and again is Seattle. Since the AS break, LA is 10-2-2, Vegas is 12-2-2, Seattle is 8-7-2. The Oilers are 8-5-4. They might catch Seattle but even 2nd is getting to be unlikely.
Ottawa taking tonight off it seems.
If we had even a semblance of goaltending....

Sutter likes to point out he scored on the right wing even thought it was up the middle and says it doesn't matter what side you play.
Guy has 2 big points and instead of building on the confidence he needs to be a ****.
Miserable human he is b
Sutters an idiot, even 99% of professional hockey players aren't fully ambidextrous on their feet and make plays easier on one side of the ice. The brain is wired that way and Sutter knows this.
Any good development camp will have wingers do speed laps with a puck, if there's a good difference in lap speed the clockwise one plays left wing no matter what way they shoot.

Kind of sped through the game on PVR. Sens were absolute trash, score flattered them massively. Too bad for Markstrom that Backlund blew his shutout but I’m sure he’s happy with the win.

Fun fact. Sutter does watch “tape”. He’s that old school.
He scored a lot of goals, so you can correctly remember many of both types
Off the rush, right side, shooting inside the far post
With Tangs, often on the PP, the Ovi style one timer. Pretty sure Ovi learned it from Iggy
(Huberdeau isn’t particularly a sniper though)
Oh, of course he scored from everywhere. I was just conjuring an image of a typical Iginla goal and that’s what I got. Of course, an example of anything Huberdeau does from the right doesn’t mean he’s not happier on the left as a rule. Forwards criss-cross all the time. But they prefer a side as a default.

When I think of Iggy the goals that come to mind are from the right side like you said you.
The imagine ingrained in my head is that goal in game 5 vs Tampa what a shot.
Iggy was the best.

Nice to have a very comfortable win for once. I decided to skip the 3rd and head to bed last night instead of nailbiting for another hour. I know that's a tired team with a rando in net, but I still think the Flames played particularly well. Top players playing like top players finally. Toffoli could be pushing for 40 goals if not for all the posts this year.
Whatever happens at this point, just go on a streak. Either win a lot or lose a lot. No more of this middling win 1 lose 1 stuff. Decide which team you're going to be and go for it.
