Meh. It was 2016. There's plenty of worse buyouts.

If Tre leaves, I'm guessing it's going to hurt for the org and the next GM will be much, much worse. I hope though, that I'm wrong, unlike some others here who make predictions related to Flames failures, hoping they'll be right just to be right.

Brouwer's contract had nothing to do with Neal's signing.

Essentially there have been two obviously bad signings. Brouwer and Neal. 2016 and 2018.

No worse than most NHL GMs, really. Look at Jarmo, who I'm always told here is a good GM. Yet, Wnnberg, Foligno, etc were bad signings.

If I was a top NHL GM no way would I come to a market like this.

Too many raving looney fans with questionable decision making abilities.

My #1 goalie inexplicably loses 30 percentage points off his save percentage from one season to the next, and suddenly I'm no good at my job anymore and mistakes I made 7-8 years ago start being brought up again. lol

Tre's biggest weakness has been coaches. I feel the last five years could be summarized as unmet potential (aside from last year and even then we were outcoached against the Oilers)
Is the jury still out on Coleman? I think he's been an excellent addition to this team. I don't know if the words "Blake Coleman had a terrible game" have ever left my lips.

And given the way salaries are trending I don't think he's overpaid anymore.

He's such a smart player off the puck.

Yeah but is going to a city that's willing to stuff batteries in snow balls and launch them at Santa Clause really better?

Really? It's his 9th season, he has 3 playoff round victories and is on his 5th coach. Are those the results you'd expect from one of the "top gm's in the league"?

In addition, the farm system is ranked at the bottom of the league and most of our top players are post apex.

At this point, I'd take almost anyone else in that seat. I mean, I guess things could get a bit worse, but how much?

I think almost any team that spends to the cap every year can average 0.33 playoff round victories per season. That doesn't seem hard to achieve.

Almost every team does spend to the cap every year (and the few who don't are tanking), so you can just skip that part of the argument).

On topic, Fletcher was terrible. How do you not making room for Gaudreau? How do you not recoup any assets at the trade deadline?

Athletic's Charlie O'Connor has a good read on the terrible Flyers management. Flyers need to remove the 'senior advisors' -- Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Paul Holmgren. They're the ones who are obsessed with 'Flyers Culture' and handpicked guys like Ristolainen and De'angelo and Tortorella for their 'old school' character.

Hextall was competent, patient, stockpiled and developed draft picks and didn't listen to the crotchety advisors, so they canned him for yes-man Chuck Fletcher, who went on to completely destroy the franchise.

What a punk.

Quote:
After a dominating season in the North American Hockey League with the Johnstown Tomahawks, Briere committed to Arizona State. Coming out of his final season in the NAHL, in which he had 89 points in 59 games, expectations were high for Briere.

But unfortunately Briere never saw his college hockey dream come true with the Sun Devils. As a redshirt freshman during the 2019-20 season, Briere and fellow freshman Logan Jenuwine (now at Lake Superior State) were dismissed from the team for what the program said was a violation of team rules.

“I was just going out; I wasn’t taking hockey seriously. It wasn’t anything bad, it was just not being committed to hockey, I was more committed to having fun at school,” said Briere. “Too much partying, that’s probably the best way to put it.”
