Giving a guy like that a guaranteed contract for so much money tells me all I need to know about the Flames. What an amateur move. We're going to keep losing year after year if we keep operating like this. We're the biggest joke in the NHL.

I bet he wasn’t wearing his scarf and mittens either.

That said, it doesn't matter if you're in a bike lane or not. Motorists will still endanger your life. Yesterday I was riding my kids to school, I'm in the bike lane and I see a semi-trailer at the front of the line at a red light, indicating he's turning right. I (wrongly) assume that he's going to wait to turn until the light turns green, so I ride up past the front of his cab to ensure that he can see me. I turn to look at him and make sure he sees me, he does, but chooses to turn right on the red anyway blocking 2 lanes of traffic and going into oncoming traffic while nearly running over me and my kids on my cargo bike. All while making hand gestures that tell me he thinks I'm an idiot.
In 99.9% of cases accidents like this are the result of drivers having undue care and attention.
|
So you rode into a spot you shouldn’t have and then the truck made an unsafe turn? Am I reading that right?

ridiculous. Lets maybe call it an even split. there are countless examples of entitled bike and scooter riders not riding with due care and attention, or following the rules of the road.
You see them every single day.

I was in the bike lane, how is that not where I'm supposed to be? I rode forward enough to make eye contact with the driver (still in the bike lane) to make sure he didn't turn right on green while I have the right of way to go straight.

I gather there are clauses which prohibit some activites, which is why golf is so big for these guys (it's never on the list). I think stuff like skiing might be out of bounds. Certainly any contact sport is. Riding a scooter will never be on the list. If so, so should riding a bike.

GOAT!

People talking about riding a scooter in February... the guy lives in Calgary for part of each season and grew up in Sweden. I think he knows what's cold and what isn't.

He turned right on red. Is that not allowed? (Outside the wide turn etc). The OP wasn’t clear on that.

iF the way is clear! Would you say “a person (or multiple people) on bikes within your turn radius” is clear?
You are aware you can’t just go through an intersection just because the light is green? Even if going straight! You are still required to make sure the way is clear! Same as this truck driver can’t just turn right (red or green light) without making sure it’s clear.
In fact, many drivers are oblivious to this, and block intersections all the time, when they should have stopped and kept the intersection clear till space opened up, so they wouldn’t block the intersection.

I’m worried that he might be out for a while. The lack or style of information being shared could be due to the trade deadline approaching
I hope he heals well though, and comes back when he is at a 100%

Hmm, maybe I'm misreading your description. You're also stopped at the red going straight on the bike lane? Why would you pull ahead of him to block him from turning right when you know he can legally turn on a red?

And you’d be wrong for having that line of thinking. Many bike lanes have a spot specifically for bikes to line up ahead of cars to avoid the exact scenario Kermit is talking about.
The driver was clearly in the wrong.

Per Ryan Pike:
Quote:
Swedish news site Expressen got in touch with Andersson and he shared the extent of his injuries.
Via Google Translate:
The express reaches Andersson via SMS.
There he says that, considering the circumstances, he is still in good spirits.
“I feel good under the circumstances. I was very lucky. I was riding an electric scooter and the next second I woke up in the ambulance. I escaped lightly with a few stitches and scrapes. A very lucky one, ” he writes.

I'm going to assume Rasmus was just speaking generally and that he didn't actually lose consciousness or suffer a head injury. I guess we will see.
He wasn't at practice today so my guess is that he won't be playing tomorrow.

Chances are the Truck Driver subscribes to that "unwritten law" of I'm bigger than you and if I go for it you best stay out of my way.
The simple Darwin law of survival of the fittest is the one to follow. If you're the one who's going to die in a potential collision....best anticipate it and try to avoid it. The motorist or truck driver isn't staking his or her life in that game.

Does it have a bike green light to indicate that? Because if not, wow, what a stupid law that can potentially get people killed.

Yeah! Just like that other idiot who did the dangerous activity of snowplowing his driveway. Sakic, I think his name was? Never amounted to jack squat, IIRC.

Big difference between clearing snow in your own driveway and taking an electric scooter for a spin in Detroit during rush hour.
