This is a fantastic weekend for me with the Indy road course hosting both the IndyCar series and Nascar Xfinity and Cup racing. The Indy road course is a fun track for racing.

Hopefully moving the restart zone will eliminate the 7 wide nonsense into Turn 1.
Need look at something similar for COTA.

No, they don't. WEC doesn't force GT cars to pull over for the prototypes and the speed difference is far greater.

There are no stage breaks on the road courses this year.
Stage breaks totally need to die. I'm ok with awarding points for stages, just don't throw the yellow.
Some of dirt races give money for leading at certain intervals and don't throw the yellow.
I really see no point or benefit to awarding stage points throughout the race if the stage break is eliminated. With the breaks at least it can be considered a race within the race and the scheduled yellow helps with pit/race strategy.

Please don't think that I'm supportive of stages at all.
Having stage points awarded without a yellow does affect strategy, especially if there is a yellow within 10 laps of the end of a stage. I do like that they give the stage winners a playoff point, because that rewards the drivers who have been consistently good the entire season.
To me the best structure is to get rid of the stage breaks, award stage points and keep the playoff format as is.

I just don't see any good reason to award points at arbitrary points within a race. I can see merit in awarding extra points to the pole winner and the lap leader and maybe some other metrics throughout the season though.

Think you're right, it was a Xfinity race at Road America and it was bloody painful to watch. It could have been awesome, but just when tires start to go, the stage ends. The Nascar race in Chicago with SVG was great.
There is zero reason for a stage in any race. If I wanted to watch stages I'd watch WRC (which is awesome).
