I wouldn't be surprised to see Sutter sit Phillips for a bit, then throw him into a game on the 2nd line or something. Mind games. Make them really want it so bad and just beyond their grasp for a bit, then when you throw them in to sink or swim, they seize the moment.
I remember Martin St. Louis talking about this tactic when he was in Tampa. He said he was on the 4th line and getting scratched, then one day Torts just out of the blue put him on the top line and there was no way he was going to let it slip away.

I can't see any other reason they'd keep him up.. I don't think he's the answer but I want him to get a decent shot. He can't be worse that what we have right now.

Sutter either the smartest guy in the room or thinks he is the smartest guy in the room. The standings suggest the latter but Kings were a bubble team the entire regular season before they won their first Cup. So who knows how this plays out.
A head scratcher for many of us. If we are going to be a borderline team at least make the game interesting for the fans by giving our younger players a chance.
Lucic looks like a player about to hang up the skates. Just don't see what he could possibly bring to a 2nd line.

Nope, he needs to be playing with skilled players as his pedigree is the top goal scorer in the AHL, which came along side skilled line mates.

Why the F is Marky starting?!
People are losing their #### about Sutter putting Lucic in the top 6, but what about the horrific mismanagement of the goaltending situation the past two years.
Last year, Sutter ran Markstrom into the ground in the Regular season.
This year, Sutter completely turns his back on Vladar when he was the only one giving quality starts.

Because he is finally playing well and finally got a win last game. Don't want to kill his momentum. Also, Vladar did not have the strongest start last time.

If this team is going anywhere they need Markstrom going. They finally got him going and he finally got a win. They will play him tonight then one of the next two. I'm sure Vladar knows he is signed to be a back up when Markstrom is making the big $$$
