It's the coaches fault. It's Lucics fault. It's Mangiapanes fault. It's Lewis or Richie. It's the worst 4th line in hockey. Sat what?
Funny how it's not Huberdeaus, or Weegers or Markstroms fault. But just give those guys time. They'll get their poop together. That's BS. Its been thirty games for pete sake.

I think the roster is lacking. Last season, if Johny, Lindy and Chucky weren't scoring the team had troubles. Apart from the (as we know see) illusion of Mangiapane being a sniper, there wasn't much secondary scoring from the forwards. Same thing this year only we don't have the two guys to bail us out. Two many grinders with no nose for the net.
Toffoli has been decent but after that it's slim pickings.
In saying all of this I also think Sutter's system is neutering any skill we might have.

The team as a whole is working hard and executing the shot volume game plan. The puck isn’t going in. Plenty of blame to go around - the GM, the coaches, the players.
Sutter talks about this a lot - we lost two 40 goal players. We lost 2/3rds of the best line in hockey last season (and that line carried this team entirely last season.
Flames tried their best to stay relevant…and they’re still battling to stay relevant. They don’t have the skill to be much more than what they are - which is a bubble team. I imagine they’ll continue to battle right up until the end of the season.

Not sure what this is supposed to mean. I didn’t even post in this thread today even though I do share people’s feelings on that fourth line. Sorry that I’m not as excited about this team as some here are. Tbh hockey is a secondary thing for me after baseball. I just don’t see this team winning with the current setup which is disappointing after last year being so good. And with the age of the lineup and the lack of players coming up it doesn’t feel like it’s going to improve.

After seeing that hockey is secondary to freaking baseball the gathering at Kasis is cancelled.

I doubt Phillips is going to get used much. If at all. He’s way too tiny.
I think they should send him back to the AHL to light things up. Then see if thet can get anything for him.

If Phillips is too tiny, then I daresay Lucic is far too big.
Just play him, for Pete's sake. He's looked fine.

Not using Philips is the dinosaur way. As a comparison, Maurice in Florida is in love with Eric Staal although he is consistently making boneheaded plays and taking penalties. Refuses to give young guys time although they look better. I guess it's something with older coaches, that the veterans get priority.

Not really fair to Lucic. It is not that he is too big. He is too slow, has rock hands, plays die on his stick and he is soft as puppy #### on board battles, rarely coming out with the puck (probably due to his stone hands). But he throws two good hits a game, which is due to his size.

Or at least call up a player they will use. Jesus it's just the same crap over and over again.
I have never been so ambivalent about the team this early in a season!

I mean, this kind of just accepts that Huberdeau and Weegar were mirages. I don't buy that for an instant. Their skill will break through eventually.

Seems to be handling guys the same size in the AHL, how do you explain that one?

I don’t think they were mirages, but they weren’t Florida’s Barkov and Ekblad. We lost Gaudreau and Tkachuk and we did not replace them with players of similar skill/ability - which makes sense, as Gaudreau and Tkachuk are two of the top-5 wingers in the sport. Huberdeau was a (strategically deployed) 2nd line player and a PP specialist in Florida - and he was awesome in both roles, and with Barkov’s line doing the heavy lifting it allowed him to flourish…but that’s not the role either Tkachuk or Gaudreau played to carry this team to success. No one of Gaudreau and Tkachuk’s skill level was available, so we ended up with the next best thing…and here we are.
Weegar is effectively another Hanifin, and Huberdeau just doesn’t look like a play driver in this system/with these teammates. We’re clearly trying to put Huberdeau in the same spot as he was in Florida with these somewhat constant line changes but all that has done is further expose the lack of top end talent on the team.
The Flames lost two elite/franchise forwards and aimed to stay competitive through team depth. It’s not working (so far), and I’m increasingly pessimistic that it will with this current mix. The alternative (to the Florida trade) was a full rebuild (which was my preference) - but I still think Treliving did a damn good job in what he was attempting to do…I just don’t think it’s the way you win this league anymore, and this season is a good case study in that.
Your stars drive your success. This team has no stars (Huby may be one…but he certainly isn’t one here so far).
