Looks like the determining factor was related to the idea that if you had control, you would have been the next person to touch it

It’s really not that complicated
No, that isn't the issue. And the Blue didn't touch it, though his stick did hit McDavid's stick before McDavid touched it again - further solidifying the fact that McDavid didn't have possession.

The rule/issue is whether or not you have possession when the puck crosses the line. McDavid lifted his stick off the puck, and didn't touch it again until he was 6-10 ft inside the blueline (and the Blue's stick hit his and almost hit the puck during that time. Pretty straight-forward call IMO.

What was hilarious, was watching SportsNet afterwards. They were whining about possession, and how if you are in possession, then it isn't offside. Then they brought up the Makar goal from the playoffs to support their case.

So they show the Makar goal, and whatshisname says 'that was a goal' all sarcastically and pouty.

Yes, it was a goal BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE POSSESSION because his stick was off the puck. EXACTLY the same call as last night. But everyone is too upset to seethe facts.

Winner right here.

The funny thing is had he kept the puck on his stick, he wouldn't have been offside.

The Sabres appear to have a decent goaltending duo with Anderson and Luukkonen. The Sabres beat the Avs in Denver 4-2 with Luukkonen making 39 saves. Coach Granato has rallied his team somewhat, good to see.

Carter Hart put on a Hart Trophy like performance as he made 48 saves in the Flyers 2-1 win in reg time over the Devils.

The Hurricanes rookie goalie, Kochetkov, gets another win for the Hurricanes as they hang on for the 3-2 win in reg time. The Kraken were down 3-0 and made it interesting, but, it was too little too late. Grubauer stopped 36 shots in the loss.

Saros made 39 saves as the Predators get a point in the 2-1 OT loss to the Jets. Neither team could score on the PP. Connor scored the GWG.

Brian Elliot was in net for the Lightning's 4-1 win over the BJs. It was tied at 1-1 heading into the 3rd period and then Tampa Bay woke up.

Vesey with 2 goals including the GWG in the 2nd period as the Rangers beat the Leafs 3-1. The Rangers PK was 3/3 and Marner's 23 game point streak has come to an end.
