He was more than a “depth” defenseman. His speed and ability to clear the zone was very good and pairing him with Tanev was a very smart decision by Sutter. According to the Flames Kylington was playing with an injury in the playoffs. He might have been injured in the latter part of the regular season.

If he returns, I think he’d make a strong defense even stronger.

kylington was an impactful puck moving player for the team before his tumble and first injury

if he's back at 100 percent and gets up to speed that could be a shot in the arm for the teams transition game . as good as the young season has been I do miss that guy out there

I've never heard of the term bottom 4

Speaking of Kylington, it seems like the Flames knew he would be away for a lengthy amount of time. I guess that explains Brad's "it's not substance abuse" remark, which at the time seemed odd but in retrospect was the right thing to do.

They said it was a family issue. Pretty sure anyone can read in between the lines on that one.

Is Valimaki playing on the first pairing with Moser?

Plus 2 with 3 points in 8 games and now on the top pairing. Just great

I have no idea what this means because there are so many possibilities of family stuff.

Those depth charts aren't accurate when it comes to actual game deployment
He played about 16 minutes today, so got steady shifts but amongst the lowest ice times, though it's a bit odd as they dressed 7 D.

Generally he's been playing amongst the fewest minutes.
But good on him for holding on to a roster spot.

The Yotes are rolling the following at ES:

Ghost - Brown
Moser - Valimaki
Stecher - Nemeth

They also dress Mayo as a seventh dman each game, but Mayo appears to be rolling through each of the pairing during the game.

Valimaki is 5th in ES TOI, but his overall ATOI is 6th because he doesn't see as much time on special teams as the other defensemen.

Sure, if the lines have a 1000 reasons I might come up with it.

He isn't but being on the Yotes top pair isn't much to write home about

With Kylington's situation, it seems silly to have forced Valimaki through waivers. I wonder how many teams put a claim in? 20? 25?

I contend he had to go because he made it obvious he didn't want to be here

We have what, 2 LH D right now?

Arizona was the only team to put in a claim

He had to go because he got beat out. Meloche would still be ahead of him if he was here.

I agree we shouldn’t have waived him but word was only Arizona put a claim in and I think the only reason for that was his salary.

I do wish we still had him, I believe in the end he will be better than Mackey so I didn’t agree with the decision but I also understood it at the time.

The Kylington situation is making me understand it less because we have had an extra roster spot all season.

I get we want to accrue cap space but still.

Mackey was playing with Weegar at times last night - does that make Mackey a top pairing, or even top 4, defenseman? No, it doesn't.

You seem to be trying really hard to make this look like some big mistake for the franchise.
