Maybe.
Benn, Suter, Lindell all expire in threes years ($19M) , Seguin in 5 (another $9.8M)
With a rising cap and an aging team keeping him cheap these next three seasons might be the best shot at a cup.
They will have lots of cap to extend Oettinger and Robertson once those big veteran contracts are gone.
Plus goalies are voodoo. Price went from best goalie in the world at 29, to average, to career over in the blink of an eye.

Seattle PBP guys just talked about the Calgary-Carolina trade and were saying that while the trade gave Carolina some good players at the time in Ferland and Hamilton, the Flames clearly won the deal in the longterm with Lindholm and Hanifin, calling Hanifin an excellent top pairing defenceman. Love catching Flames content in games they're not involved in.

What's going on in Seattle? I haven't noticed Shane Wright so checked and he's only played about 2 min so far and the game is in the second period.

Does Carolina have anything left from that trade?

Wright was never going to be a game breaker, he's likely a 2nd/3rd line C in the show if he can continue to improve.
But definitely over hyped going into his draft year, guy struggled on the big stages.

Imagine for a moment Lindy-Kadri-Monyhands-Backs as our 4 centres.

So I checked and he played 6ish minutes in game 1, Hakstol then scratched him for game 2 and so far tonight, has 2 min in ice time. Yikes. Send him down if you aren't going to play him.

Doesn’t happen though in my view because of the cap space.

Unless Looch was moved out instead of Mony. Granted, his cap hit is smaller, so an additional adjustment would've had to be made.

Carolina made Seattle look silly on the PK. Scores in the first 10 secs of PP.

I don’t quite understand. You can’t put Monahan where you have Backlund now. He’s not a checker or defensively responsible and couldn’t do anywhere near what Backlund can against McDavid. You could I guess put him where Rooney is but he’s not a fourth line energy guy either. So really the only way it works is if you put him on the first two lines, likely as a winger or move Lindholm back to the wing. We know quite well that Monahan is hopeless against top skaters like Mackinnon and McDavid. I like the guy and am glad for him but unless you could put him in the Toffoli spot there really isn’t a space for him.

You don't think management explored options for moving Lycic instead of Monahan?

Canucks blow another lead, their third straight loss and had a players only meeting after.
How long will Bruce Boudreau last there if this keeps up?

They still would have been better off long term IMO...if the cap is super high in 3 years that just means he demands that much more.
