True, but Rooney is listed as playing all three forward positions. He could end up moving back and forth depending on which of the other guys is sitting out.

I don't mind this. I will mind it if a rookie out performs him and gets cut. But this deal is like insurance, he can be 4th line/ pressbox, but if you have to waive him it's not a huge loss then.
I want to see guys like Ruzicka and Pelletier make the team, but all this does is make them work harder, which do long as the chance is given, is actually a good thing

Hate to say it ...
But signings like this are excellent in separating the pile for who actually understands what's going on and who doesn't.
At $750K he isn't taking up cap space, he isn't competing for a top nine role, he's free depth.
Even if you don't like the player there is literally nothing to worry about.
