Similarly, Disney Star Wars has created plenty of conversation through their creative choices over the past decade and have seen the brand tank in terms of viewership, fan interest, merchandising and most importantly profit over that time of heavy "discussion". We have seen the exact same thing in terms of sales/interest tanking while creating conversations with Dr Who, Star Trek, DC & Marvel Comics (comic book divisions) and it appears we are about to see it with Lord of the Rings and a number of other video game/movie/TV franchises...

(The Star Wars & MCU TV shows on Disney+ do far lower viewership than most likely think they do...
Based on what?
Quote:
She Hulk ep1 did a little more than 1/10 of the viewership of House of the Dragon ep1 and similar viewership numbers to CW Batwoman and Supergirl, which are now both cancelled).
As a rule, streaming services don't release ratings so I'm pretty sure you're talking completely out of your butt here, you don't have those numbers.
Also, She-Hulk is a limited run 30 min fairly light action-comedy show based on a relatively marginal IP, created to appeal to a specific demographic among the existing MCU fans, much like Ms. Marvel. House of Dragon is a flagship product, so it's not an apples to apples comparison. Even if the MCU is doing so damned well they can probably afford to spend comparable amounts of money on She-Hulk.

More people will watch a new, single PewDiePie or Mr Beast video today alone on youtube than will watch Disneys Lightyear over the course of its run.
Disney+ has 150M+ globally subscriptions, most of which are likely used by more than one person, especially since there's a lot of family content. So it very likely takes less than 1% of the Disney+ audience to watch Lightyear to beat out PewDiePie, who seems to be getting around 1.7M views per video, total.
Not that it has actually anything to do with the topic, because one content is free and the other people pay money for, and they're not in any way competitors to each other.
But it's still nonsense.

MCU phase 4 is making less than half the box office that Phase 2 or 3 made
...first of all a drop in ratings was absolutely to be expected just because the most popular actors mostly are mostly done, and second half of phase 4 movies came out during some kind of covid restrictions (Eternals, Shang-Chi and Black Widow especially), and they came out in a very tight schedule due to obvious reasons, and also you're just making crap up here.
The latest Spider-Man is the 2nd biggest box office hit in all of MCU, and the newest Dr. Strange is 8th all-time, so no. What you're saying is just not true.

and DC movies are almost a non-factor after their longtime comic book fans largely abandoned them.
Dude, what are you smoking? "The Batman" sits 4th all-time among DC movies at the box office, despite it being very quickly released in streaming. Where it also apparently did pretty good bank. It's absolute a smash success by DC standards.
Also, longtime comic book fans largely abandoned them?
Just... oh please Nobody actually believes this other than a bunch of ranting idiots on youtube.
Quote:
Sorry for the rant, but I guess Im just saying that, over the past 5-10 years, "discussion" in the entertainment sphere often translates into massively decreased profit and relevance once your attempted discussion is over. We are watching titans fall every day in the entertainment sphere right now. Be careful of how many long time, returning wallets you are willing to lose, whether you agree with their reasons or not.
This is all just complete BS. What titans are falling? You should spend less time watching dudes on youtube who lie to you to make you feel angry so you'll feel justified in your frustration that not everything in the world is targeted at you anymore, and so that you'll keep going back to them so they can keep making money off of you.
Meanwhile, Disney+ somehow grow to be the new global leader in streaming (they recently passed Netflix in subscription numbers) despite all their new products being, according to you, irrelevant and unsuccessful. Does that actually make any sense to you?

Rings of Power is struggling to produce any positive fanfare and with a multibillion price tag, is positioning itself to be the financial disaster thats going to pivot Hollwood away from ham-fisting this type of content into all their premier material.
Oh look, another dude who should expand their bubble to include more people than ranty youtube dudes.
^^ It was amazing to me to see the number of outraged reactions to She-Hulk trailers by incels who assumed it was a new made up character in an attempt to be woke.
Also referencing Supergirl as a "cancelled show". Yeah, after 6 seasons. Pretty decent run if you ask me.

Yeah, but RyZ and Matata wouldn't actually know that. It's pretty obvious they don't actually watch most of this stuff or hang around people who do, they just copypaste "opinions" they read online and choose to believe because it makes them feel like they're not missing out on anything by choosing to be angry internet dudes instead of actually watching stuff.
My only issue with this is how they seemed to have half assed the cover itself. Why wasn't more effort put into it? It honestly looks like a photoshopped cover. Take the time to do a proper cover with Nurse and Zegras, and put some more work into editing it. It could have been done so much better IMO.

Understandable. Shes not in the NHL. Title has NHL.
The title says NHL, but the actual game has had teams from other leagues in it for years and years. And you can move players from those leagues into the NHL within the game.

I don't think there is any political agenda, nor is EA trying to be progressive for the sake of gender equality. They are just trying to make money by selling video games.
The female audience in the gaming industry has grown a lot in the past 10 years and probably continues to be under served. I imagine this is especially true within the sports games genre. If they can tap into that part of the market more, they can make a lot more money.
The fact that the game is called "NHL" doesn't mean anything. I am sure the NHL is onboard with endorsing female hockey players, because again, it helps them reach more female audiences.

Unless the game forces you to draft and play Sarah Nurse on your team in franchise mode, I cannot imagine caring enough to be offended by a bloody video game cover.
Is that how the covers have looked for a while? That seems bizarre to me. i thought it was just a related photoshoot on a beach announcing the cover athletes. But the cover is just two people on a beach?
I generally dislike BoLevi's posts, but there is a bit of pitchforking and namecalling going on.
Marketing can be both progressive and pandering.
Companies love to promote how eco-friendly and inclusive given today's culture. A lot of times, they don't actually care about the cause, but know that it will curry favor. It's not "being an incel" to make that point in this case, given that Nurse is not affiliated with the NHL. It's fair to suggest this is a marketing gimmick to 'pander' to our progressive culture.
There are better ways to support women playing and participating in hockey than putting a woman on the cover of an NHL game. On the bright side, these campaigns can often lead to more positive change.

A week before it comes out, the latest trailer for RoP has <400k views and 5k likes in 3 days. Most of the trailers have 10x more dislikes than likes. This is a staggering amount of apathy for a multibillion project based on one of the largest media properties to ever exist.
Theres no thread in the OT about it and it hardly gets mentioned in the Amazon Prine thread.
Try and find a positive comment in the reviews, i dare ya

Where do you see the ratio of dislikes to likes? YouTube stopped publishing dislikes almost a year ago.
