When you are looking at teams that might be interested in a trade for a defenseman you have to look at grades like this and teams that are in the bottom two tiers that see themselves as playoff contenders.

Columbus - Roslovic, Nyquist
Philadelphia - Konecny, Tippett
Ottawa - Batherson, Formenton
Buffalo - Olofsson, Mittelstadt
Detroit - Bertuzzi, Zadina

Options depending on the team and if the return is Hanifin, Kylington, or Valimaki

LW top 6 candidates
Huberdeau
Mangiapane

RW top 6 candidates
Toffoli
Coleman?
Dube?

I mean, it would be nice to give the RW a boost. But I also think Huberdeau-Elias will elevate whoever plays next to them.

The Penguins thrived for many years using set pairings and rotating middle six type forwards through their wings.

We're so solid at D and C (and G) that it's easy to stomach. You'd rather this than be left wanting at those other positions.

XXX-XXX-XXX

XXX-Andersson(4.5M)
XXX-XXX

Markstrom (6M)

That's what the team is once Hanifin is up for his extension. Regardless of Kadri they needed a center. Weegar signing would/could have an impact on Hanifin, but not Kadri.
I agree Weegar is the bigger impact...I'm working on an assumption that he extends.

Huby 10.5 - Lindholm 9.5 - ??? 0.8
Mangi 5.8 - Kadri 7 - Coronato 0.9
Pelletier 1.5 - Backlund (etc) 4.5 - Coleman 4.9
??? 0.8 - Zary 0.9 - ??? 0.8

Weegar 6.5 - Andersson 4.5
??? 0.8 - Tanev (etc) 4
??? 0.8 - ??? 0.8

Scratches 2.4

Markstrom 6
Wolf 1

74.7...so probably around 8M left to bolster some of the slots I have at league min.
(Obviously lots of assumptions here, could give/take a few million either way)

Slot Hanifin in at 7M and we're at 80.9M. Not a lot of room left to improve that 1RW or any other position - it's pretty optimistic to actually run 4 skaters and 3 scratches all at league min.

You can certainly do it, but it forces a lot of other sacrifices.

If they're trading for a Canuck it shouldn't be Miller, it should be Boeser.

Or Garland. One year older but better contract and his points trajectory has been better than Boeser's.

I really think Brad holds tight now and makes some trades at the deadline.

After/during that Oilers series, I just soured so much on hockey and it remained that way until the ridiculous, fantasy sounding Tkachuk trade. Since then, I haven't been able to stay away lol. Anyways, in the realm of fantasy (which is what this whole off-season has felt like), here's my pie in the sky. Not sure why Boston would do this but meh.

Lucic, Hanifin, 2024 1st, Coronato (would add more futures if needed) for Pastrnak (Boston jettisons Forbort/Reilly or something for their cap issues)

Sign Stastny. Trade Dube to recoup some assets/improve left-sided D depth/sign Milano.

Opening day:

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Pastrnak
Mangiapane - Kadri - Toffoli
Milano - Backlund - Coleman
Rooney - Stastny - Lewis
Ruzicka

Kylington - Andersson
Zadorov - Weegar
Mackey - Tanev
Valimaki

Markstrom
Vladar

Does weaken the defense but man, those forward lines. Obviously, even if possible Pastrnak is UFA and we'd have another issue of what to do with him and Weegar but still... we'd be loaded for a run this year.

Anyways, obviously ridiculous stuff but I sure as hell thought I was being trolled when I saw Huberdeau lol.
