I just popped in to say that I won't miss Gaudreau or Tkachuk on an emotional level. Although I did appreciate their talent, they just never got me in the feels.

But watching Monahan's promising career dwindle and fall apart due to injuries was really hard to watch. Now that he's been traded, I'm really sad. I'm not sure what it is about him, but I just loved how he played. Never complained, battled in front of the net, did his best to build a complete game (still a little incomplete, but whatever), tried to dish out physical play even though it's not his M.O., and scored clutch goal after clutch goal for years.

He did all this playing through an endless string of injuries that would have ended most player's seasons early. Now maybe that wasn't the smartest thing to do, but I appreciate the sentiment that he felt his team needed him more than he needed his longterm health. He sacrificed his career for this team, and he was the consummate professional. It's a rare quality to see in an athlete these days.

Perhaps my emotional attachment is due to the fact that he was the first bright prospect that entered the rebuild. He's the first that gave me hope we had something to build on. Perhaps it's because he truly was a gifted player who outscored his draft class for many years before injuries caught up with him.

Either way, I can truly say I will miss Sean Monahan, especially when he turned into Mean Sonahan.

I own two jerseys with letterbars on the back. One is Iginla, the other is Monahan.

Best of luck to him. I hope he finds a way to carve out a few more years of a career.

Monahan has been my favourite Flames since Iggy left. Sucks that injuries had to derail his career. Hopefully he can make a rebound this season and continue on to a long career. Going to miss him on the Flames.

Hope one day he can return near the end of his career for a second stint and retire a Flame.

This. 100%

Honestly I think with Monahan it's because he seemed like a genuinely good person too. Easy to like guys like that.

Wish him the best and honestly wish we could have ran it back with him, even if he was just a guy on our 4th line.

But get why Treliving needs to go all in to win these next two seasons and how Monahan is too big of a risk to keep for that.

I might burst into Flames for even stepping foot in this thread lol. But I sincerely had hoped he could turn things around here somewhat, and now I hope that for him in Montreal. All the best to Sean!

I never saw that report posted anywhere but it doesn't surprise me at all that Sean would do that. That's just his character bleeding through, as much as his passion and dedication to the Flames bled through.

This trade stings. He is in his prime and him and Linholm (the 5th and 6th OA pick) should had been our 1a and 1b down the middle. His body fell apart from giving it all for our team. I sincerely hope he finds success again in his career.

Listening to the Gudbranson interview on Flames talk and the way he described what Monahan was dealing with before he got shut down last year made me get a lump in my throat.

Gud called Monny and Tanev the toughest players he ever played with.

God Speed Monahan. Come back like a champ, I'm rooting for ya.

The Johnny Monny hug in the hallway is a great Flames moment.

I always held onto hope that Monahan could turn it around. I still hope he can for Montreal.

All the best to him.

I'm sad to see him go. As much as he had holes in his game, he gave everything he had and was the ultimate teammate.

That said, a part of me is happy to see him end up on a bottom feeder because I think it's the best thing for his career. Take away the pressure to gut it out in a tight playoff race and maybe he'll be able to stay healthy. Hopefully he truly recovers as much as he can, gets some prime minutes to put up some points, and after a 50 point season and with a clean bill of health he can get back to a reasonable career.

Wherever he ends up I'll always be a fan.

He and Gaudreau gave us much to cheer about for many years, and knowing they were best friends, on a personal level, made them special. I always thought Sean had a certain level of maturity, and calm level headed demeaner, that made him a great spokesman for the team. I often wondered if he would have made a good captain. I'm sad to see him leave the team, but happy that he is going to to a great franchise, and will be with one of my favorite former flames, Paul Byron.

As a heart and soul guy as any we've seen in many years in Calgary.

Great player and although im not one to worry about guys moving on much(logo on the front over name on the back), this guy came at a very dark time, made the team as an 18 year old and gave a bit of hope to a very hopeless franchise and their fans.

Wishing him well in Montreal and beyond.

Class act.

Gotta say this one stings a little. Really wanted to see that comeback. So my dream is goes to Montreal and gets back to form. Resigns with flames in off season and all it cost us was $. First doesn’t sting as bad lol. Hey it could happen so don’t suck the fun out of it for me lol

That's the saddest part of the story. Wish his injuries had been communicated about or treated differently along the way. We obviously don't know exactly what was going on behind the scenes, but it does seem as though the longevity of his career was traded for some short-term benefits through him not taking more rest and treatment earlier on.

His quiet self-half-fist-pump or whatever it was after he scored a goal was the best.
