As someone who grew up watching the flag jerseys, I can confidently say I will never feel nostalgia for them in my life

You wait. I was so pumped when the pedestals were retired, and equally pumped when Blasty was retired. Now love it as a throwback.

I personally kinda liked the flags on the home jerseys (not so much on the whites) reminded me of soldiers going to war, to each there own!

I didn't like the flags for sure, but it honestly wasn't the biggest issue with those jerseys ... it was the odd striping.
- odd arching single black stripe out of the armpit
- stripes vertically down the side and never lining up with the pants
- but wait! Lets add some thin vertical stripes at the bottom
Whole thing ended up looking like a disco night shirt

I don't think so. Blasty is looked at fondly because it is the only black jersey that also has an alternate crest. I'm still not a fan of the pedestals but if you removed the pedestal, the rest of the jersey is okay. The flag jerseys commit so many fashion crimes that I just don't see them aging well.

The worst thing about the pedestial era was that it was part of the 1990s "black is cool - let's put it on everything" trend. The Flames just carried it on for a couple of decades longer than necessary, all the way through the prolonged flag era. Black on a third like Blasty? Sure. But the trim, pants, helmets, etc. on the primaries all went black and only recently went back.
May the proper colour palette of red, yellow, and white forever grace our primaries, and the club can do whatever they want on the third jerseys.

A large part of my Flames fandom died when those Flag jerseys were introduced.. not going to lie. I didn't grow up liking the Flames retros either. I'm a Blasty/Pedestal/Young guns era fan for sure.

I honestly think there were a couple of big issues with the pedestal jerseys:
1) They looked terrible and really muddy on the old TVs in the pre-HD days.
2) The quality of the replicas in that era were just terrible. I was able to get a pro cut Pedestal jersey, and it's remarkable how much nicer that jersey is when it's a nice quality pro vs the just terrible replicas you usually get. Sharper and much cleaner lines, and it makes a world of difference.
3) The white jersey looks much better than the red jersey did - but we tend to see a lot more of the red jerseys kicking around.
To me the flag jerseys will just always be uglier since the actual design itself is ugly and the blue flag will always clash with the red.

I grew up on pedestals and I hate them. They are terrible.
Blasty is great as a throwback, but the pedestals need to die.

He's referring to the weird vertical strips on the sides I think.
Edit: Oh wait, you're right. He's calling out both the vertical ones, and the thin horizontal stripes.

Yeah that was a speed kills moment ... horizontal at the bottom clashing with vertical from the arm pits.
Insanity.

I personally like the pedestal design... however most of the Reverse Retro jerseys are kinda banking on bringing back the all the worst/ugly jerseys. And I kinda like that idea haha.

They need to have scorch on the jersey. Either main logo or a shoulder patch.

That might be the exact reason people love them in the future. Look at the Reverse Retros, the Ducks jersey and Coyotes jerseys, the ugliest of the bunch, were the favourite returnees.

Yeah but there's a difference between classically ugly, like a lot of things "retro", and just plain bad.
California Golden Seals - Deliciously ugly. So bad it's good. Product of it's era.
Bufa-slug - Just bad.

Nah, not the same. There's old school, out there ugly that makes a comeback in an endearing way. The Flames piping/flag jerseys were just mediocrely there for way too many years.
