That’s why I said it would be a steal. I don’t expect a long term deal to come under 5. We had a change to get a bargain two years ago, but he hadnt proven enough yet. He is still a streaky player also.

One thing I noticed when he talks about factors that players consider when leaving or signing with a team, winning isn't really mentioned. It tends to come down to money, lifestyle, and opportunity to play with complementary players.

Reading between the lines, I think the third part is a huge priority for Mangiapane. Winter emphasizes this a lot with Mangiapane specifically. He wants to play with the best and he wants the first PP unit time. It sounds like more than anything, he wants to be a top guy and to play with other top guys so he can be productive, and sees the Flames as his chance to keep doing that. He probably doesn't want to leave and risk falling into depth on another team. I can respect that. Second of course is money. From the sound of it, Mangiapane isn't necessarily pining for lifestyle markets.

I have always suspected that winning wasn't as big of a deal to a lot of players as it is to fans, at least not until those players are closer to retirement. Up until then, it is money, lifestyle, and personal on-ice success/opportunity. Of course winning is nice, but I suspect it plays a much smaller role in where most players sign.
Agree. Funny how winning wasn't key but maybe it's the age of players whereas older ones would prioritize that? One thing I heard a little differently from you was that Mangiapane actually wasn't too fussy with who he played with as long as line mates were consistent.

The agent going on the radio and out in the public speaks to the fact that he sees an opportunity to get the Flames to up their offers because they need some PR wins. This is good agenting.

Yeah this is Winter trying to get a Jeff Skinner deal for his guy. You have money to spend...you better spend it to prove you're serious.....I'm just not sure that Mangiapane is as elite as the analytics are indicating. I personally prefer 4 years max here. If he is a Marchand late bloomer...you can pay him again.

Doing exactly what an agent is supposed to do!
And don't believe a word out of his mouth; or maybe do. He might have a high opinion of Treliving, but probably only because he thinks Treliving is likely to pay him. No one's pulling this type of #### on a guy like Lamoriello.

Do you know who was the GM of the Islanders was when Tavares left? And who had a meeting with Tavares prior to taking the Islanders job?
