If he signs there then hopefully that's the case, but I'd rather he just F's off out east somewhere.

Kane was good for Edmonton last season, no argument there.
But, he came in and shot 5% higher than his career average.
His closest comparables from an analytics perspective typically fall off HARD right around 32, 33 years old.
His past season has a big old McDavid asterisk beside it which his agent is trying to leverage into big money given Kane’s financial situation.
Add in all his off ice baggage and any long term contract will have the team signing him regret it very quickly.

If Kadri was 28, 29, maybe.
He’ll be 32 when the season starts.
It’s an upgrade at C, to be sure. But he wouldn’t be a top-3 choice.

Kadri would be a better fit for Sutter hockey than gaudreau.
We’d have amazing center depth as well.

one would think that Kane might be a Plan D for several teams given that his status as a shark has still to be completely sorted out

Gaudreau was a better fit for Sutter hockey than most if not all of the team so I disagree

Lol right; Gaudreau seemed fine playing Sutter hockey regardless of how it’s defined, dude put up 115 points for crying out loud. Him not being a Sutter hockey player or not as good of a fit as player x is for Sutter hockey is a pretty funny suggestion at this point.

And lots of people (mainly non-Flames followers) seem to think Sutter hockey is all smash mouth, grind it out hockey.
Sutter likes a checking game (not a defensive game he stresses) which seems like it means pressuring all over the ice to rush the other team's play. Conversely he like possession (not calculated by virtue of shots but actual time), and possession in the offensive zone. Gaudreau is pretty good at that.
Kadri would be fine for Sutter, I'm confident (but for the penalties, which Sutter hates). But so is Gaudreau. As a GM Sutter acquired Alex Tanguay twice. Mike Cammaleri, Huselius, Langkow, etc. Not exactly bruisers.

I have never followed Kadri's exploits all that closely, why do people consider him toxic?

Dude literally just had one of the most dominating seasons in modern NHL history and we still hear “he doesn’t play Darryl Sutter hockey”

Toronto media made him a villain because he got suspended in the playoffs more than once.
Calgary locals have some hate for him because he made a throat slash gesture towards Giordano after Gio hit him…like 6 years ago or something.

I think more people here have an issue with his refusing to waive for the trade to Calgary, even though it's been explained that he was just trying to stay in Toronto and didn't expect to get traded to Colorado right after.
Calling him toxic is an odd take though, his history of suspensions in the playoffs isn't great... but using that to call him toxic? Strange.

I have no idea what he is like now but when he was a London Knight he was a complete and total d-bag. He used to frequent the same bars I did. People grow up though so who knows.
