Alex has Chucky Jr. to ride shotgun so he will be just fine. Very solid trade for the Sens.

I doubt you actually thought that through. 24 year old who just put up 104 pts. Yes, 3 firsts would be very close value.

How about for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd then.
Even better, right?

This is a great trade for the Sens IMO.
Draft isn't that good. Debrincat is only 24. 1 year at $6.4M and then he's still a RFA.
He's averaged 35 goals per 82 games for his career. Honestly this return makes me a bit scared of what the Tkachuk return would be - career wise their numbers aren't far off. Tkachuk coming off a better year of course.
If Ottawa can get him re-signed then this is great for them. Really should help add to that young forward core.
Tkachuk, Debrincat, Batherson, Stuzle, Norris, Formenton, Pinto...that's a pretty good young forward group and all of them are 24 or younger.

This is exactly the point. They "sucked" and yet they still had ten teams finish below them for one of those years, eight another time.
Now they got rid of Strome (rumoured), Hagel and DeBrincat and will likely actually finish at the bottom instead.
I also liked that the year they "sucked" they had 55 points in 56 games. The Flames had 55 points in 56 games and they went for it...

What are you talking about? Chicago was going for it with the
Jones trade when no one thought it was a good idea and it blew up in their face. They lost a big chunk of youth and draft capital and really have no choice. The Flames had a bad covid year but had pieces they believed in and picked up a goalie they thought could be a difference maker. Not wrong, in my view. I get why Chicago sold high on Hagel (to a lesser extent on DeBrincat), but the Flames would really need to undo a lot to get to a tanking scenario.

Chicago is due for another lottery pick (Toews, Kane) what better time than 2023.

The part that makes no sense is trading Debrincat and Dach (name also in rumors)
Yet keeping Toews, Kane, and Jones who are older and less likely to want to stay through a rebuild.

Not a lot of people lining up for 10.5 Toews.
Maybe a few for Kane but both players are past their prime and likely retiring as Hawks.

They could keep Strome, they could keep DeBrincat, they could keep Hagel and continue to finish in that bottom ten spot and hope for another lottery win to give them the best chance to draft a game changer.
Or they could recogonize the writing on the wall now (after the Jones trade) and gut their team so they don't have to hope and prayer for some balls like some slut.
They'll finish near the bottom next year, draft a game changer, start to contend in 4 or 5 years and everyone will pretend to be shocked and how lucky they were when they made the moves they made to actually try to win and not just toil in the middle.

Retain the salary if you're rebuilding anyways.
Both guys only have one year left - so maybe they just think they can get more at the deadline as rentals when the contracts aren't as restrictive.
But 1 year of Kane at $5.25 and 1 year of Toews at $5.25 should still get you a decent return.
Toews was only on a 42 point pace last year but had 60 the year before. I think a team looking to take a run would be okay with adding him.
Kane still put up 92 points in 78 games last year. I think you could get a ransom for him if you were to retain salary.

I'd try to talk them into doing the Keith Tkachuk move.
Let us trade you for the season and then we can re-sign you as UFAs if you really want to come back. Although maybe that's more of a deadline move.

The trick is to put an AHL team around them every night until they want to leave.

I think Buffalo is on the rise too and that’s complete discounting of the Bruins too…

I hope that’s exactly what happens. I hate the Hawks.
And I especially hate Kane and Toews.
