To be fairrrrr… that was early pandemic when no sports were playing.
Also, it was awesome, and inspired the CP beer bracket.

Some interesting reading there for sure, however I'm not overly concerned. Since the days of Napster there have always been players claiming they will shutter the 7 seas. It may take a while but there will always be a work around, and these streaming sites bring in big bucks too. You bet they'll find a way to break through this dynamic blocking.

When the season ended Steinberg made some comments on the last day of the Flames Roundtable like things were uncertain. He was thanking the listeners and all the contributors like it was their last show.
I personally enjoyed the Flames talk show and think it was one of the best things to come out of 960 in years. I prefer it starts an hour or two earlier but I really enjoyed all the Flames centered talk and lack of replaying the same interview 2-3 hours later.
I hope Flames talk is back in the new season

Caroline Cameron for HNIC.
I could also see Jeff Marek.

Very well put.
For a long time they meshed so well together, but I though Don wore out his welcome maybe 10 or so years ago.
Ron should never have been allowed to stay without Don, he was just his flunky anyway.

I'm surprised stations like this haven't tried just playing podcasts. Of course a lot of pods aren't conducive to popping in/out of, but some are.

The HNIC between intermissions may be tired, but during the game the production is 10x better than ESPN or TNT. Replays are terrific and timed really well. The USA broadcasts can't quickly queue up a good replay. Isolation cameras on players are seemless by comparison. Cuthbert et al don't talk too much. I always wonder why ESPN doesn't just use the HNIC feed.

Could you imagine McDavid working TV? His level of insight would be incredible;
Elliott Friedman: "That was a really bad period for team x. Conner, as a former captain what would you preach to your teammates in the intermission to collect themselves?"
McDavid: "Um...yeah....I...uh...would take my eyes off the floor, shake my head, and say to the team; 'Let's go'."

I wouldn't bet on the radio side surviving, their typical ratings have to be so bad now that it's not even funny. Everything could easily be done on demand and via podcasts. At times 960 is not even listenable due to the ridiculously long commercial breaks and constant betting talk.
For TV I would guess something more along the lines of the TNT set up would be quite smart versus crusty old suits like Ron. I have no idea how he managed to survive that whole fiasco but he was past his best before date then too.

I'm sure they'll be fine if they are willing to embrace a daily podcast with the Flames and continue some sort of post game call/text POD format if they get creative.
The problem is that the radio format just doesn't work anymore when nobody in their right mind wants to advertise on am radio and the listeners don't want to waste half their commute listening to the terrible ads, poor guests and betting talk non stop.

I hope they give Kevin Bieksa a bigger role. I hated him as a player but he's probably the best on the panel. Even when he says stupid #### that I disagree with, it's done in a way to play devil's advocate and encourage discussion.

You may be sadly disappointed. The tools available now are considerably more effective than in the past. A simple VPN is no longer enough to evade Netflix' filters....don't count on them being enough to evade blocking technologies.
China does this, as does Russia (and likely other countries as well) - and they are both VERY effective at it. Is there some leakage? Yes...but not much.

As mentioned by many others we just don't watch HNIC as closely as we used to before, I noticed that a lot during these playoffs, we would have the pregame on mute while we listened to music and even the intermission at times. It's the local content I worry about. Most of us on here have been around long enough to remember the Joe Sports, Rob Kerr, Mike Richards, Andrew Walker days to what it is now. They have tried to do the best they can with what they have been given, heck they lost their boss Kelly Kirsch and still had to go on. Two guys that I would feel for the most are without a doubt are Pat Steinberg and Boomer. Steinberg carries that station at time and probably puts in way more than what he gets. He has done whatever has been asked of him it seems. I think a lot of us would miss the fan and especially the personalities like Steinberg, Boomer, Loubo and even Pinder & Derek Wills if they were gone. Good local guys that have made the most of what they have been give by their employer.

I'll be surprised if Marek isn't brought in to take over for Ron, especially with the Elliott Freidman connection from their podcast. I think it could be palatable as long as they don't get rid of Bieksa on the panel. Hated Bieksa as a player but man, he actually brings some life and different opinions to the broadcasts which is sorely needed.
As far as 960 goes, my interest in the NHL and the Flames will be severely impacted if 960 gets dissolved, especially if their cost-cutting solution is just to force feed us Toronto radio/Marek Show/Rome/etc. Guess we'll have to wait and see but man, Sportsnet/Rogers is just the worst.

He'll get a podcast that no one listens to. Its the avenue for old broadcasters who got famous in a previous era and then became windbags who loved to hear themselves talk (Peter Manbridge, etc)

They've cut Marek out of the NHL broadcasts for the most part. I think he's too wordy and can't his points off quick enough.
