They played solid defensively in game 7 against the Stars without Tanev and the PK was great last night so if Tanev doesn't come back they should be able to overcome that. I'm still holding out hope that he may be back at some point as he's one of those players that will play through pain.

For sure, and Stone has been great. Kind of amazing to have fresh legs out there, to be honest, given Stone's season.
I'm a huge Ollie fan, but he had some of his worst gaffes last night. He needs to calm down and keep it simple. Do that, and they'll be just fine.
As far as Tanev, I think we can get it done without him. I'd rather he sit than risk worse injury and not be available when we really need him if we make it to R3. If the Flames falter, we might see him back.

If these rumors are true, the subterfuge with him practicing seems kind of silly. Not sure anyone game plans for Chris Tanev.

I don't think it's Sutter playing games. I get the feeling he's willing to play through the pain and it's a matter of hitting that threshold where he's willing to give it a try. On one hand I hope he comes back but I kind of feel selfish wanting him to play through extreme pain.

Yeah with all due respect to the rumor guys it doesn't make any sense for the flames to let him be practicing full contact from a liability perspective if he is seriously injured and could get hurt even worse. And if it's an injury that is painful but carries no risk of worsening which you would have to think is the case for him to practice, knowing tanev he will be back.
the worst case worry was some kind of lower back fracture I think seeing the tony Romo comments?
I am wondering about monahan. I know he was shut down for the season but if the flames can keep playing will he start skating again? He looked like he was moving pretty easy in that video last weekend and it's been 6 weeks now... wonder if his surgery was right after the shut down
Edit nevermind I looked up his surgery, hip labrum... 4 months to resume normal activities. He's not even halfway back.

I bet tanev wants to play and the docs haven't cleared him.

Oh yeah that's a guarantee
Dude could have his leg fully hacked off and would still be telling coach "naw I'm good man, put me out there".
Dude is tough.

Seguin had a hip labrum injury in 2020, so if you're wonder how Monahan is going to be like in two years...

I got pretty good info that the injury is a torn up shoulder. My own thought is that it’s the kind of injury that he could play through once the pain and inflammation comes down but one that could make him a defensive liability. A torn up shoulder would certainly require surgery at some point to get back to 100%

Losing Tanev would absolutely suck. Hopefully we continue to see a solid performance by all six defensemen (like what we saw in Game 7, not the defensive lapses last night)

Getting to serenade those goofballs and their foolish fans out of our own building. Sounds pretty beautiful to me

Yeah. Taking part in practice without a no contact jersey. Not buying it to be honest. It would be taking mind games to a whole different level having someone do that if he’s done for the season and needs surgery. Keep him off the ice in that case and people can think whatever they want because no update will be given either way.

No idea if Tanev will be back. But if he isn’t, that’s a big problem. He’s the Flames’ second most important d-man.

If it is a shoulder injury, giving it a week or two to get the inflammation down might buy a few more games.
When it is inflamed, you become very aware of how many nerves run down your arm past that joint.
I've had 2 shoulder injuries that required surgery and once the inflammation went down, it went from every movement in the hand or arm shooting pains everywhere to just localized pain or instability at the actual injury site. In my college football years I sat for 2 games and then played the last 3 regular season games and the one playoff game with a brace and was effective until it dislocated again in that playoff game.
That is likely why he is still skating rather than being shut down.

We don't really need him for this round. Just rest up and hopefully he is good to go for the 3rd round.

You have to think that, as long as the Flames are leading the series, he doesn't play.
If the series is tied or the Flames are trailing, then it's a different story.
