The case can be made… but it can't be made convincing.

I still don’t understand how you can your chin driven into by a hard plastic helmet and not get injured…wobbly like JG was last game, or at very least, cut.
If there was a cut on the play that’s easily 2 games, if it wobbled him, probably 4…and refs couldn’t avoid calling a penalty. Not sure how two refs missed that in the first place.
Danualt with a steel jaw. Nurse got off very light for a very dirty play..
Wonder if he appeals to be able to play tomorrow?

the refs should be suspended for not calling a penalty on that play

The Oilers got away with tonnes last night. One of the worst displays of officiating in the playoffs so far. Most of it was interference. For a team that is supposedly fast, they sure clutch and grab a lot.
Nurse's headbutt was a culmination of what happens when they let one team act with impunity all night. The line gets pushed further as the game goes.

I just noticed that Nurse follows up into the headbutt so hard that he breaks his own stick. What was he thinking? It's possible that his own stick breaks from the pre-headbutt double armed whack (which is also not acceptable).
I still don't get how Danault didn't sustain an injury like a concussion or broken jaw, teeth, etc.. in that play.

Nurse clearly power swoops and uppercuts Danault's chin. Baaaaaaaaa-hhahahahhaaaaaaaad move and could've easily resulted in a broken jaw.
What a loser!

Players get suspended more games for hockey plays like hitting. Should have been rest of playoffs, carried over into 8-10 games of reg season. There is no excuse.

Way too much nuance between incidents, and you can't anticipate every possible action (see Benn, Jamie).
I would like to see DOPS cite at least 2 similar incidents whenever possible. "This incident was worse than X because ___; it wasn't as bad as Y because ____" (but there are obvious PR reasons why they don't do this)

He probably broke his stick on the ridiculous slash 2 seconds before.

I think that no injury had a lot to do with the lightness of the suspension. Rightly or wrongly the league weights that pretty heavily (from Burke).
Nurse’s No Goodness is so great that he can’t even hurt someone with a vicious head butt.

It's interesting that you can now recall an AHL player in game one of a series, have him intentionally drive his helmet as hard as he can into the jaw of the best player of the opposing team, and sit him the next game.
Intentional headbutting is a hard skill to practice, but for a marginal player it might be a nice thing to have in your back pocket. Being allowed to headhunt one of the top two opponents really opens up a new aspect to the game.
Exciting!

And I suspect the Kings had a quiet talk with the league and said "Hey this is a suspension, or we'll just have some schlub take McDavid's head off, easy peasy."

Lyle Odelein back in the day. Now that was a headbut.

Being bigger than someone doesn’t make your head hit them. Being smaller does. If you’re bigger, you have to duck more to lead with your head.

Even thought Nurse is at best a average number 2 defenseman on a good team, he's Edmonton's top defenseman and minutes eater. He's also a catalyst for their physical game. In a regular season they can survive without him. In a road playoff game against a pretty determined LA team, its a big loss.
At the same time, once again Edmonton is showing a real lack of character, and work ethic. It feels like a team that just loafs to wins, but when the tables turn on them they don't know what to do.
In the words of more then one coach "Talent don't win, if Talent doesn't work hard"
Edmonton's talent doesn't have work ethic when the chips are down.

Wait, what? He came from underneath. He hit the jaw area with the top of his head. How does being bigger do that?

you're right, but man, what a standard -- you need to actually debilitate someone before we take it seriously.

Should rename it the Department of Player Safety from Reprecussions, disgustingly soft punishment, but this has been their MO for years. They base off result, not intent. Wonder how many games a player would get for shooting a gun at another player if they miss and only graze their ear, 5k fine?
