I do dislike Benn a lot. But I can’t say I agree with two fines = suspension or anything like that.

There is no doubt he will be getting watched closer by the officials with all the crap he has been pulling.

Why would a repeat offender not get a stiffer punishment.

I don’t know, I just don’t think we want a situation where a star player has “accumulated” x amount of fines and now they have to sit out a Stanley Cup final game or something like that. Especially if it wasn’t anything bad that put them over the top.

I guess that may be part of the reason the enforcer still exists and still has a role.

On the flip side, two fines and the player thinks, *Why change my game? $5k is minor" Then next game he injures a star player on the opposite team

Agreed. And this is why Lucic had that little chat with Benn at the faceoff.

Then Benn did the good ol'slew foot to Lewis and was still seen trash talking Tkachuk from the penalty box. No injuries and he wound up not taking Tkachuk off his game but the risk is there.

I'm not saying Benn is out to injure someone but the risk is there if he isn't given a stern message of more than pocket change.

The whole thing of how much money they are fined is another story.

I still don’t want to see someone sit out a game 7 because they tripped someone. I am not condoning Benn’s shenanigans, just thinking if the shoe is on the other foot I would be pissed.

Fine worthy plays deserve fines and suspension worthy plays deserve suspensions.

Slew foot deserves suspension. Benn has done it a few times already.

That’s not what I said.

You can post a thousand things about NHL dops, that is a whole different discussion.

What I am saying is I don’t want to see a player sitting out a playoff game because they have accumulated enough small infractions for a suspension.

Again, this isn’t just about Jamie Benn. I don’t like him, he has been a dirty pos all series.

Let’s say you have star from team A playing against star from team B in the finals.
It comes down to game 7, both players got into trouble the game before. Now, because of some shenanigans in the first round series where they both also had some other fines, they are sitting out game 7.

Just stupid. The league doesn’t want that and the fans don’t want that.

^^ I think the suggestion was if fined twice in the SAME series- which we have to admit is a pretty rare occurrence, and likely reflective of someone committing a suspend-able offense..however I share your skepticism. once the rule was in place, we can be reasonably certain Tkachuk would be the first recipient of this new honour

I imagine Benn is watching the nurse outcome with great interest. if no suspension he'll gladly add this one to his bag of tricks. cheque is already written

Particularly in back to back games. I believe that officials will be watching him closely with all the media and fines he's received so far. That may limit his ability to get the Flames off their game.
