The only talking point for me - and it’s a very minor quibble - should Mangiapaine have been the third shooter? He had the hot hand tonight.
|
I have no idea if he has a good shootout move though. Sutter must - they do it in practice every now and then. You sometimes never know who’s good - remember Schlemko?
Years ago I watched one of those open practice/skills comps with the Flames and the backup goalie came second in the shootout contest. He looked crazy because he of course had no pads on his legs - just socks.

I remember when Versteeg was automatic in shootouts.

After the game, Preds fans should be the one worry about facing the Flames. Yes, their team won and got the 2 points but they nearly gassed a 2 goals lead. And they won on gimmick that won't be in the playoff, and they won't be resting at home and facing a Flames team that played the night before. I can't wait for the playoff to start so the Flames can pound them.

Really wanted the Flames to win simply to stick it to the homer NSH announcers. Got a kick out of them though, at least they are upfront about it. Straight up called Mangiapane's 2nd goal "unfortunate" and whined about all the diving on Flames' PPs, yet silent about the NSH ones.
Funny dudes.

Joe Colborne was another guy that was money in the shoot-out, had that long reach and always looked smooth as anything in the shoot-out.

Who would have thought that when Darryl Sutter was hired 13 months ago, his best Flames season(s?) was yet to come.

In the beginning of the broadcast, Chris Mason said he thought the Flames were the best team in the West and that he was biased because he grew up cheering for them.
Terry Crisp is still doing his final season of analysis during intermissions.
Seems like a pretty pro-Flames crew, really.

Not quite to Versteeg's level, but Monahan was close to automatic (early in his career). Huselius was another one.

Yeah, Monahan would just casually skate in and wrist one in, always high right corner.

I found the broadcast very one sided. Flames penalties were all “gotta call that every time” and preds penalties were dives from Calgary.
Every time we missed the net it was by a mile, while every time the preds missed it was so close.
I usually never say anything but watching a full game on their feed you really notice it.

And technically the offside was called, and at that time Kyllington was one step on the ice, so really should not have been called in my opinion. He was not, nor could he have been, "in the play".

I heard he's likely facing a disciplinary hearing for cross-checking Vladar in the back of the head:

What the hell is that Hanifin?
That's a horrible shot, hes looking right at him what was he thinking?
Bizarre.

Lol that is pretty odd. The only thing I can think of is he tried to push vladar down to hold the puck and went a bit hard

Yeah, weird, isn't it? It's a nickname given to him by Eddie Olczyk. Probably referencing Walter Tkaczuk from the Rangers in the 70s.

Okay. Yeah, that felt like too much of a stretch to be a Richard/Dick thing.
