No, they just talked about how much they love the city and how well them and Johnny have been treated since he joined the Flames.

I am sure the flames would like to get him under a new contract, and I would imagine with how this season is going he is interested in a new contract in Calgary, what with all the play off excitement and all.
However once that is all over, cup or no cup, in the cold light of day, you look at things very differently, with more of a family/business head on, that's when it will get interesting. JG and family maybe saying all of the right things now but until he puts pen to paper, everything is just lip service.

There needs to be several threads. Several on each.

this is kind of what i was thinking.

i was also thinking that perhaps we need trade threads on each player in case they are traded prior to July 1 (or whatever the date of Free Agent Frenzy is this year) to give a team an exclusive negotiation window

This is where Calgary has a big advantage, if they can re-sign him before free agency starts (after that I think their 8 year ability disappears).

If NJ offers 11 mil a year for 7 years is 77 mil

Flames offer 8x10 and he makes 3 mil extra dollars.

I can see the Panarin contract being a template for Johnny, whether he stays here or goes to FA.

CGY: 8 x 10
UFA: 7 x 11.42

This does make me think that he would take a small discount to stay in Calgary, based on a feeling of loyalty to the team that believed him and gave him the opportunity and the circumstances in which to succeed. On any other team, without his current linemates, it is unlikely that he would have achieved the success he has.

Now add on the additional year that the Flames can offer, and I believe that Gaudreau may well sign in Calgary for nearly $1M/yr less than his market value.

Maybe Treliving even goes to Gaudreau and Tkachuk's agents and says, "Johnny and Matthew clearly are amazing together, and it's best for the team and for both of them that they continue to play together. So what are we all prepared to do to make that happen year after year for another eight years?"
