I do see three 2 day breaks coming up! (Ouch, you’re right)

Best case is to get a good first round matchup and hopefully clean it up early

Had to listen on the radio tonight. From that perspective it seemed the game changed after Looch tried to get to the guy that head shotted Tanev and got the only penalty. Vegas scored on that powerplay and it seemed to be all over after that.

Missed most of the game, really only saw part of the first including the kolesar head shot. Hopefully a wake up call for the flames, and they get back to good habits with the lowly coyotes on Saturday.
So they lost 6-1 and nobody beat the s*** out of kolesar? Hell if you’re losing by that much don’t give the dirty clown an option.

That’s not incorrect

The Flames targeting that guy was more noticeable than the Flames playing well

You didn’t miss much on this night

It was clearly unintentional by Kolesar.

Flames were chasing him all night to a fault

He apologized to Tanev. Tanev came back. Should have been nothing but it was all you noticed about the Flames

To be quite honest, I wonder who even knows anything about the guy, other than this game

That was was a woofer. Brutal by pretty much everybody. Great game by Tkachuk last game, and he stunk it up bad this one.

Exhibit A of why I do not want a CGY-VGK playoff matchup.

I'd say it was intentional. From the replay you can see Kolesar start to raise his elbow as he's coming in and then drop it and bring the shoulder into him. He's a hitter and definitely aware of what he's doing on a play like that.

Lucic should have just grabbed kolesar and tee'd him up.
Who cares if it's a 5 and a game. It's a meaningless game.
Send a message, you can't be taking a run at our guys.

On day three of a brutal cold (not covid) so taking a pass on the game story. Guessing people aren't all that interested in reading a 6-1 loss.

I thought the comment from Sutter about there being a bigger focus on individual numbers vs team numbers was pretty telling about why the team play has been lackluster of late. The good thing about a good shelling like this is it should make easier to remind these guys what it takes to win in these tougher games. I am not overly concerned about this particular loss. When there is more of a focus on some measure of payback than actually playing your game, this is a more likely result. Let's see how they come out against Arizona.

As far as Zamler and other's concern over how this team may come out for the playoffs? Why would there be no reason for some measure of worry? We are Flames fans, should come with the territory. For those of us who watched this franchise win at the Forum in '89, it has been an absolutely horrid run since. Since then, the franchise has made it past the 1st round, what? Twice?! I realize those were different teams, but with that history, being cocky and already putting these guys in a 2nd round match-up is premature.

Not that anyone is expecting a cakewalk, one thing we know as Flames fans, this team/franchise will not make it easy for themselves. I am certainly hoping for an amazing run, but hey, cliché or not, 1 game at a time. Go Flames Go!

Usually after a brutal loss, a lot of fans need a day or so to wash away the negative feelings.
Poor midniteowl went to this game as well.

Games like these happen, and act like a sniff of smelling salts - great wake-up call.

I thought it was just one of those games where the bounces all went the other way - the Flames couldn't buy a goal, and the Knights scored on every chance. It happens. And no, it wasn't Markstrom's fault.

Regarding Markstrom and the discussion about why play him - yes, generally, you would play your #1 against top teams. But I think a pretty good argument can be made at this point in the season that you keep him away from teams that you might meet in the playoffs, the same way they gave Vladar 2 starts against the Avs.

The bottom line is that the Flames have nothing to play for right now, and no matter how hard you try, it's tough to have as much jump as a team that is desperate and also on a roll.

People talking about the Flames being tired but there are no breaks in the schedule - no, there are no breaks, but playing at 80-90% is how teams recover. If the Flames were fighting every night for a playoff spot right now, they would be exhausted by the time the playoffs start. But these games are giving them a mental rest.

Some are worried that the Flames aren't as sharp as they were in February. First, it is impossible to be at your best perpetually, it ebbs and flows. Second, the Flames are getting a bit of a mental rest right now. Come playoffs, they are going to be raring to go.

Daryl warned the team about this game two days ago in practice.

Game for me turned on the PP goal on the Lucic penalty. Sad fact was it was a great penalty kill, with basically the only sustained pressure being at the end when they scored.

Backlund has a rough game aswell as the third pairing. I dont think Markstrom was quite as sharp as he usually was either. We scored one goal so you are not gonna win often with that.

I believe Sutters plan all along was to clinch and then get Markstrom a few games off. He will be starting on Saturday that you can guarantee.

I think Sutter said it a few weeks ago, that work ethic isn't a problem with this team. They work hard. They play a playoff style game most nights of the regular season.

The problem is losing focus on what it takes to be successful. It's easy to work hard in the playoffs, if you can't find motivation in the playoffs you're in the wrong line of work.

Its the between the ears stuff with this group. Understanding what it takes to win, the preparation and foundation so that the focus is automatic. You can't just flip a switch for game one of the first round.

I think it might be good for this team to have the playoff spot wrapped up with a handful of games left. To learn how to be an efficient, top team that can just cruise through to the playoffs. To learn how to be that when desperation and motivation are a bit harder to come by. It's what Colorado is doing right now. Just cruising. The Flames seem to have some wrinkles to iron out still.
