Race for the division...

CGY: 8 pts
EDM: 22 pts

First team to zero wins the division

Every point CGY earns or EDM misses, drops the Flames' number by that amount. Conversely, every pt EDM earns and CGY misses, drops their number. For example, if CGY wins today, their number drops by 2. If they lose in regulation, EDM's number drops by 2. If CGY gets an OTL, both numbers drop by 1.

The Flames have guaranteed home advantage in the first round and can't fall bellow second in the pacific. It seems it's down to Dallas or Nashville as the Flames' first round opponent. The rest of the teams have less than a 0.8% chance with Vegas and LA leading the way.

Updated likely first round opponents:

Weighted Schedule:
DAL - 64.6% (was 26.8%)
NSH - 33.7% (52.9%)

Without taking account opponents in the games remaining:
DAL - 56.0%
NSH - 42.0%

Flames are a great team and I feel confident they can beat any team in a series this year under Sutter and with how he has transformed this team. But I would probably prefer to face Nashville.

I feel like Nashville is a better team overall than Dallas but Dallas is a team full of “flames killers”… Benn, Seguin, Radulov, Heiskenen, Pavelsky. Not to mention Suter who is a slashing machine - and remember, at best he will only be called for every 10th or so slash he gives Gaudreau.

Dallas is also one of the most frustrating teams in that they win games against the flames even when they don’t play well. Can’t count how many times the flames have dominated the game and Benn/Seguin don’t play very well yet those two seem to capitalize on the rare chances they get and pull off 2-3 points anyways.

Following the April 16 games, the magic number is now 0 for the Flames being unable to catch the Avs for 1st place in the conference. The Avs win over the Hurricanes clinched it, damn.

LA does have an easier schedule, but yeah if the Canucks win their game in hand they are 2 points back with both having 5 games. They also still play each other once. If the Kings lose to the Ducks tonight, it will make things interesting.

VAN hosts OTT tonight, so no excuses there. Then they go to MIN and CGY - that's their season right there.

Would be hilarious if Van came from 10th into 3rd at the last second and then beat the Oilers.

So Oilers lose in regulation tonight and division is clinched right? No way they can catch Flames in RW.

That is correct. Division could be clinched by tonight.

RW is already done - the Flames have that sown up, so the tiebreaker is done and the Oilers would have to pass them.

Any two points now, either from Flames getting them or the Oilers missing them, and the division is locked up. An Oiler loss in regulation tonight would do it.

Oilers lose tonight in regulation the Flames clinch the Pacific for the second time in 4 years and the second year in a row where 82 games are played.

And the second year in a row where Darryl Sutter started the season as head coach.
