I almost couldn't bring myself to watch this. I don't know how many more 3 hour long super hero movies I can sit through, especially one that's been rebooted a bunch of times now.
It was not a bad movie, but just an okay movie. The difference between this and lets say Nolan's vision in "Batman Begins" was that this was a very forgettable movie, while Nolan's was a very rewatchable and memorable movie. It was beautifully made, but after having so many versions of batman, this seemed ...very low effort. I just felt nothing at the end of it, haha.
I watched it, and it was certainly an ernest attempt, but the movie really falls apart in the second half.
I got annoyed that I had to literally squint to see anything. I still put the first two Nolan Batman movies ahead of this and honestly I still love the first two Keaton Batman movies. I do give this one credit for a different look and feel with an iconic villain like the Riddler.

I'd relate it to Tenet in that it was craftfully made and easy to watch (thanks to great visuals and sequences), but not a lot grabbed you about the story.
You walk away just not taking much out of it.
You could argue Begins didn't have the detail of this film, but the story was fun and engaging throughout. It had the heart that this movie lacks.

I think my dislike of the Bale Batman really made me enjoy this more than I should have.
It probably helps that I think Matt Reeves is extremely underrated, and I'll glom onto anything with Colin Farrell in it.
B+. Zoe Kravitz should have taken more acting lessons. I like Bubbles The Riddler. Having Batman able to speak in both "Batman voice" and "Normal voice" while in costume is much preferred to Bale's constant aggrogrunts.
Crave is a terrible platform that needs to get with the times and have something better than "grainy 1080p" as a video option.
The seawall thing was silly, and I can't unsee emo Bruce Wayne (although Pattinson's Batman was good).
I might be in the minority feeling that Dano's performance was essentially meth Joker. The prison interrogation scene was some powerful overacting and I couldn't wait for it to end. Just couldn't take him seriously throughout the film.
Otherwise I really enjoyed the layered, detective-style Batman story, and you could see the film pay homage to almost every Batman film before it.
My favorite was the score, but Something in the Way was always one of my favorite Nirvana songs and the guitar riffs at certain points really set that gothic, brooding mood.
EDIT: Also want to add that the Batmobile tease and reveal was brilliantly done.
Ya I don't understand the praise for Dano, he was alright when he was acting normally but when he tried to go full psychopath with Riddler it was just cheesy, he doesn't have the range to pull that off
Overall I found the movie pretty average. There were some good scenes (Batmobile reveal and chase, dark hallway fight), but the movie was a good 30 minutes too long and needed more work in the editing room. Also hated Pattinson's emo Bruce Wayne

Batman Begins sorta sucks now... I've been rewatching it and it's very, very, very slow at the start. And there's some super cheesy stuff with the NINJAs that is beyond stupid.
Only the first Keaton movie of that era was good. The rest were poop and are unwatchable now.

Batman Begins is the best Nolan Batman movie by a mile. Other than Heath Ledger’s performance TDK is a nonsensical mess. An enjoyable one, but a mess nevertheless.

They're definitely comic book movies that have no basis in reality.

Ok, I just watched the Batman. I couldn't buy any one character actually having a real interaction or relationship with any other character. They were all so detached. It looked incredibly beautiful, but Matt Reeves is a pretty wooden writer, and clearly directs actors to fit the visual, as opposed to directing actors to build a dialogue or emotional throughline.
Frustrating movie. It looked so good!

I've had a night to think about it... and yeah, that was pretty bad. The writing was just downright horrible, plot armor everywhere. The pacing was off. The actors looked like they had almost no direction at all, which was a feeling that was compounded by the experienced Turtorro, Saarsgard and Farell acting through it, but the younger actors looking lost and just saying words.
Everything and everyone looked amazing though. I liked the addition of actual detective work.

I feel like there wasn't a very clear vision who Batman is in this movie, other than "he's Batman and he's very brooding and isolated".
It was also extremely unclear what Seline saw in Batman, which is a pretty major problem with her character motivation.

Puzzle solving is pretty far room actual detective work, but it's a traditional comic book version of detective work
It's a good thing nobody shot at his face in the 23432421 gun fights he was in, unarmed.

I'm pretty surprised there are so many negative comments about Catwoman's acting/storyline. As far as comic book movies go, this was top notch stuff IMO. The chemistry between Kravitz and Pattison was pretty great. The idea behind their characters is that they are both loners/wounded souls who find a space that overlaps in their respective worlds as thief/hero. Bruce Wayne is supposed to be aloof, which is why he can't connect with anyone in his real life.
Overall, the greatest strength of the movie was the world it managed to create. They are coming out with a Penguin TV series, which I'm quite excited about. The Arkham series should be great too.
