Can someone explain why we are cheering for Tippett to be fired? Based in the Oilers record of futility since he was hired, he's been doing a great job.
His inability to coach the team to play responsible defensive hockey is because McDavid and Draisaitl are allowed by management to run the locker room. Sounds like he is the perfect coach to keep them in the loss column.

Is it just me or this is the first time the Kylington - Tanev pair will play against the Oilers?

Lucic, Zadorov, Ritchie and Gudbransson all heavy weights so I would hope we can depend on the Oil NOT trying to goon it up, they just aren't in Calgary's league for toughness.
More Sutter ticght checking and structure tonight please.

Tippett's 160 games are the best stretch the Oilers have had in 30 years, apparently. So the futility thing isn't entirely correct
Under Glue Gun, at least after the new coach bump they'll probably level out to being worse.
I think what Tippett has demonstrated is that no matter how good the coach, that group of misfits and entitled dinguses will find a way to make him look bad.

Gulutzan can at least coach a possession game, which might get more out of their bottom six.
Tippett's rope a dope is best. Completely takes away their bottom six, while inflating the numbers of McDrai

Presuming a flame regulation win tonight, here are the standings projected based on pt % / rewound to their actual total as of 41 games:
61.5 Colorado Avalanche
55.8 Minnesota Wild
54.3 St. Louis Blues
51.0 Nashville Predators
45.6 Winnipeg Jets
45.3 Dallas Stars
36.9 Chicago Blackhawks
25.2 Arizona Coyotes
50.0 Vegas Golden Knights
50.1 Calgary Flames
45.0 Anaheim Ducks
45.0 Los Angeles Kings
44.0 San Jose Sharks
42.1 Edmonton Oilers
41.0 Vancouver Canucks
28.7 Seattle Kraken
They'd have to jump 5 teams for the last wildcard slot, or all three CAL teams for the last PAC spot. Even this assumes EDM stops the bleeding immediately and manage 4pts in their next 4 games.
Obviously not out of it, but a very tough road. The silver lining for them is that they've only had 1 game (Loss to LAK) against the other teams in this dogfight during this garbage stretch, and won't play another until Feb 14. They'll need to do very well in the rest of those games:
4 vs. SJS
3 LAK
2 ANA
1 WPG
2 DAL

Losing to this sad, fragile, pathetic team would be rock bottom for the Flames I think. Nothing would be more embarrassing than losing to the Oil when they're in full meltdown mode. Flames need to show up ready to play and stomp on their throats tonight.

This game scares the hell out of me. We don’t have a good record playing up there and they are going to be salty as hell.
Scoring first will obviously be key for us. If we can do that then I like our chances. If not, it could be a long night.
Either way I’m gonna hit the booze hard and hope for a coilers jersey toss night. I wanna see 10,000 jerseys on the ice - although I’m not sure what charity would take them.

You could have Scotty Bowman coach the oilers and they would still be No Good, as long as the "management" won't let a coach coach, two players above everyone else, doing whatever that they want, with no accountability.

It wouldn’t be rock bottom but would certainly feel that way for us die hards.

Pretty much a must win game for the Flames who have to show up with one of, if not there best, games of the season. Edmonton is going to be a tough out tonight. Huge huge statement game tonight.
