He’ll move the team to Houston. I think Gondek just cost us the Flames, unfortunately.
What a terrible day to be from Calgary.

Depends on how it went down. I negotiate contracts every day for my job and something like this isn't crazy out of the norm.
If Gondek asked for some help on the sidewalks and the response was no, #### off, I am out then not really reasonable. If Gondek pushed and tried to strong-arm Murray herself then it is a reasonable reaction.

Everyone just cool with the city renegging on a deal? Notice in her Twitter thread she notes that "she did not support that deal". That is irrelevant.

Totally irrelevant, but yet she felt the need to state it.

Why can't they ink a ####ing deal and stick to it? Shockingly this happens all the time in every industry you can name.

I think what he might find if he tries to go this route is he's going to have to pay a hefty transfer fee to go to Houston. And the Rockets owner wants his own team so he might not be a friendly landlord.

So Murray Edwards could have just said no but instead went scorched earth and scuttled the whole deal because he was so mad that the city even dared ask for the flames to chip in more?
Is he really that bitter that he was only able to swindle taxpayers to the tune of $300m and couldn’t live with himself unless it was $320m?

Terrible look for the city if they are basically moving the goalposts on an already agreed to deal and then trying to jump out in front of it pointing the finger at CSEC that a deal is falling through… the new mayor clearly is underestimating what this team has meant to the city for so many years to be so recklessly dealing with it in this way. Unbelievably terrible news as a Flames fan and at a time that’s been pretty tough to be one. Can’t imagine what the players think of this…

You're kidding, right?
Anyone who thinks the team is moving over THIS is delusional. This is political posturing and a Twitter spat, nothing more.

That is my take a well unless we hear that Gondek pushed it to the point that CSEC pays or the City walks.

I wonder if Edwards has some back door arrangement where he's slipping Gondek something on the side to give him an out on the project...
It all seems highly suspect.

The city didn’t renege on the deal. The flames did.
The city tried to renegotiate the terms of the deal. That happens all the time.
It was the flames who reneged by walking away from a signed deal.

If any issues with infrastructure come along in a complex project like this - not to mention the larger master plan considerations, then it's the City that has to bring it up and be blamed as the "bad guy" as I'm sure is CSEC is going to position them - once again. Effectively they want the city to cover more and more of the project - more creeping costs for the taxpayer.
The Flames are awesome, but Murray Edwards and CSEC can go pound sand.

If this was the Flames changing the deal by 1 cent, and admitting as much like the mayor is, you'd be having a heart episode.
Plain and simple, this mayor is ignoring a contract signed in good faith from the councillors and mayor and ultimately citizens of the city, from a very cautious previous mayor, who's seat is still warm.

Seems pretty clear that the costs were going to skyrocket and this was an easy out for the CSEC.

Honestly I don’t know which party is in the right, however what I do know is this will only result in increased ticket prices and taxes. My priority is just to be able to live in my home, while attending a hockey game just gets more and more out of my reach.

So when you purchase your vehicle the dealership and then sign the contract for your F150 for 75k and then you go to pick it up and they tell you sorry it’s now 125k because it costs them more to make it.. what would you do?
This is 100% city pandering to the political bull####.

No, that’s not what happened. That’s a terrible analogy in every way. Nobody is selling anything here. The flames and city are partners. This is also a 1.5% cost difference, not 66%. And the city didn’t change the contract, they asked the flames if they could.
A better example would be if the flames and city signed a deal to pay for an arena and the flames approached the city to tweak the deal and the flames acted like little crybaby losers and cancelled the entire deal because the city had the audacity to even ask about making a small tweak.

There has to be more to the story.
I'm going to guess, that once the Flames side comes out, they'll say it's the city wanting to back out of the deal unless the Flames agreed to the changes. if it was as simple as the city asking and the Flames saying no, it'd be a non issue.
