Some thoughts on this and the package the Flames should be entertaining giving up.
1) Which of the roster players is going. Obviously Monahan is on his way out. But who goes with him? Dube? Mangiapane? Valikmaki? What combo?
2) The Flames have to determine whether Dube is a center or a wing. I don't see an effective center in him, so I think he is best served staying on LW, and predominantly in the third LW slot. Because the Flames will be losing a center they may be inclined to sit on the centers in development they have, which means you keep Zary. He also provides a little more flexibility in being able to play that LW slot.
3) This also depends on what they think of Tkachuk? Is he a RW, or is he a LW. I think he hasn't been overly effective on the RW and his foot speed may not be the best thing for that line. If the Flames feel he's a RW, and they are going to move Dube, there is a gap on the left side that needs to be filled, which means you want to keep Pelletier.
Taking it all into consideration I would be most comfortable with:
1) Monahan, Dube, Valimaki, with a conditional 1st, and conditional 2nd as a kicker - the conditions being that if Eichel comes back and plays more than 20 games this season, the pick is a 1st, otherwise they get a 2nd round pick.
or
2) Dube, Valimaki, Zary, 1st in 2022, conditional 1st or 2nd in 2023 - conditions being that if Eichel comes back and plays more than 70 games in 2022-23, the pick is a 1st, otherwise they get a 2nd round pick.
Anything beyond those, I'm not sure I would be inclined to make the deal. A lot of risk there.
