Hoping Kylington is able to bring his play from the preseason into the regular season...
Other than that, not sure about this team, but 94-96 points seems about right. Need to get some bounce back years from Tkachuk, Monahan and Andersson and hoping Mangi carries over his play from the WC

- I'm confident Tkachuk will be much better this year and he looked good in the pre-season
- I'm also confident Markstrom will have a better season and early returns (pre-season) are good with Vladar. Might have something there
- If Monahan IS healthy that's a big add back too in terms of a productive (even 25 goals) guy up the middle
- I think Coleman is going to be a strong add.
Things I do not like
- The defense is going to be worse without Gio unless Hanifin takes a big step. Which he might. But then you need someone else to take a big step behind him (Rasmus?)
- Not a fan of Gudbranson being on the team
- I'm also not a fan of Ritchie being around, though hopefully he's the 13th forward and not a regular day guy
- I'm just kinda tired with the forward group and yearning for bigger changes there
- Overall I don't think this team matches up well with teams that have truly elite players. The Flames simply do not have an upper tier of "best players" to match up.
I think this team can make the playoffs and if they do - I would not count out any group led by the old farmer. If they falter, I hope they used the TDL to make some tough decisions about the team and use it as an opportunity for a larger re-shaping.
I would say my emotion heading in is not excitement but more intrigued.

Pretty my exact feelings as well. Good summary.

Just my opinion but I’m really tired of this back and forth on “negativity”. It’s in every thread.
This is a thread about the roster. If someone’s contribution to the topic is nothing more valuable than “it sucks” well let’s just move on. 20 posts arguing about what is or isn’t justified negativity is brutal reading.

Well the absence of the original negative drive by would pretty much negate the need to complain about it.

I agree with all of that. I’d add a big question mark for me is whether Monahan will bounce back hard, whether Dube takes a step forward and whether Mangiapane keeps up the pace.
On D I wonder if regular season will suit Zadorov and Gudbranson more than preseason. And whether Rasmus has a bounce back year (I think talked that one bad season = bust are unfair).
The thing about losing Gio is that you have to project how Gio would have played this year. He’s lost a step in the last two consecutive seasons (though he recovered a lot paired with Tanev, which IMO has a lot to do with the Tanev effect). At some point the legs are going to not be there for Gio and this may well be the year.

I don't disagree there either. But you do have to acknowledge that the team is making it pretty easy for the drive by stuff to happen. Also, I hope you don't classify a quick response like "Not a good roster. Could be a rough year" as a drive by.
You have to appreciate the temperature of the waters right now. I'm sure you have seen a drop off in site visits and the stats are probably down. We just had a rather damning article come out about Flames fan's feelings about the team. I think the enthusiasm level for the team is waning in a big way. I don't think we're near an all time low, but I feel like we're back to where we were before the 2004 run. So I think you have to understand that and respect that. As someone who get's called out for his "negativity" I think you must be aware that you may many times appear like Lt. Drebin in this gif, trying to get people to ignore the obvious disaster happening over your shoulder.
I get it. I actually understand and appreciate your upbeat nature and the positive spin you put on things. It can be frustrating at times because you do seem like Frank above. But you have been through a lot where that positive disposition and outlook has benefited you. Good on you sir. I would like you to recognize that this negativity that you're seeing and feeling is human nature and a way for people to process and deal with their disappointment or grief. People need a place to come and vent, and CP is that place for many Flames fans. Continue your work of trying to find the positive in the maelstrom of Flames negativity, but recognize that people are going to react and feel the way they do off of their expectations more so than anything either of us can say. People expect better, and they're going to post based on those expectations. To be honest with you, I dread the day when people get to the acceptance level and just tune out the team all together. That is not a fun condition to consider, and one I suspect we headed toward.

I would add the whole Gaudreau situation is fascinating. Frankly I hope he shows a level we haven’t seen before and earns a monster contract. But what’s more likely is that the team finds itself in a major dilemma approaching the deadline. In playoff contention with their most dynamic and popular player unsigned.
I’m excited about the games. If they disappoint it will be time to point fingers and lay blame. If they win, watching the games will be all the reward required.

I’m just expressing my own view about what I’m tired of reading.
I really don’t believe that complaining about it improves the situation. We all have a choice about how we respond.

As I said this topic is announcing final cuts. We all know the roster, we've all known it since late July. But people see the need to jump into the final cut discussion with drive by roster sucks comments?
Seems juvenile.

While I agree on the drive by negativity, I’m not sure I agree on this part. With late draft and free agency, I think most of us thought there would be more of a major shakeup even as the off-season went on. That we are on the season’s eve with one of the more disappointing off-seasons I can recall as a fan, I’m not terribly surprised by the negativity on this site or otherwise.

Appreciate the comments honestly.
But I'm not like Frank at all. Where have I ignored problems or been overtly positive?
I'm just tired of the cheeky negativity. It gets really old.

My point is yesterday's final cuts didn't walk in a completely different look than we've assumed for the past month or so.

There hasn't been a more divisive subject on this board than Sam Bennett.
It's time for everyone to move along and look to the future.

I'm in the same boat here. I'm not excited about the team, but they do have me somewhat curious about how they will do against a very different style of play that the majority of the league embraces. The Pacific is a bit of a gong show, so anything could happen. Edmonton and Vancouver are going to try and score their way to success, but get hammered in their own end. Vegas is going to be a mixed bag. I think the loss of Fleury is really going to be felt hard. The California teams are not in great shape and should be the punching bag for the rest of the league. Seattle is going to be brutal. That leaves Calgary, who will play a more defense driven system, but with some really bad defensemen. I'm not sure how this is going to play out, but I hope it works out.
