you really have to. Die Hard is one of the best Christmas movies ever. I watch it every year during the holidays.

Love that movie.

Yes, Mel Gibson is a horrible human. He’s also an exquisite director, and this is easily his finest achievement.

The performances, the cinematography, the Scottish landscapes, James Horner’s score, the practical effects, JAMES HORNER’S SCORE.

For real. You’ll be humming the music for weeks - the only reason James didn’t win an Oscar that year is because he was also nominated for Apollo 13, and he split his own vote.

Braveheart is the movie Gladiator wishes it was, and I really enjoy Gladiator.
Love that movie but it's also about as historically accurate as Avengers was.

People wearing wrist watches, rubber battle axes flopping like dildos, Mel Gibson handling a bastard sword as if it weighs a third of what a real one does...

I have never watched any of the Godfather movies or Goodfellas. I've always said I would, but whenever it popped up, just didn't get in the mood to.

That's what keeps me from loving the movie. I really wish they did like Master and Commander did which was take a fictional story but root it in history and realism. Braveheart might as well have taken place on mars.

History nerd moment, I know

Lol, you're doing yourself a favour by not watching Twilight. I remember going to the theatres with an ex gf to watch it. Lining up to go into the theatre, I think me and another guy with his gf were the only two guys there. The rest were teenage girls or little girls with their moms. I don't think I've eye rolled more times watching any other movie.

There's Something About Mary keeps slipping through the cracks. That was huge back in the day

Haven't (yet) seen a few of the newer Pixar or Disney films such as Finding Dory, Inside Out, Good Dinosaur, Wreck it Ralph 2, etc. They tend to get bumped in favor of something else

I'm a pretty big movie guy so I see everything, even if it's not in my wheelhouse. curiosity will get the best of me. If not the story then I'll watch for the cinematography or a specific actor.

In my opinion the biggest turds ever made are the Fast and Furious movies and I've even seen 2 of those. Damn, what pure garbage. I had a low opinion going in and they were worse than I expected.

Yen Man - once you watch Goodfellas, it will be in your yearly rotation. It's that good.
Habernac - Gone with the Wind and Seven Samurai are worth the runtime.
Jacks - Check out King of Comedy for some storybuilding context on Joker.

Jesus H. Christ.

Clear your calendar and watch this immediately. Kurosawa is a master of filmmaking that Orson Welles wishes he was. Still my favorite film of all time.

And the film that to a large degree ushered in what we consider films now, made on location with natural light, it was groundbreaking films didnt look like this in 1954, frankly they didnt start looking like this until the mid sixties in the US

This was released in the same year!!!

I despise Disney and Pixar so while I was subjected to some Disney films as a kid, I've wiped them from memory.

I've also never seen Harry Potter or any Pirates of the Caribbean movies as I think I would also despise them.

During the 90s/2000s, I skipped a ton of those cult movies like Zoolander, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, The Usual Suspects, 7 etc. and I've avoided a ton of superhero films except when I would get invited to the tentpole Avengers ones or something through a vendor trying to market something to us.

You had the exact same experience as me, pretty much identical except I went with my wife

It doesn’t need to be - it isn’t a documentary.

It’s about an event that took place seven hundred years earlier, written by a literal blood relative of the title character.

History becomes legend, legend becomes myth, myth wins five Academy Awards, including Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Picture.

It is utterly elite narrative storytelling.

Spoilers for whoever doesn’t want to know how the movie ends, but I'm sure you can guess - it does nothing to detract from the majesty of this finale.

James mother####ing Horner. Kids, don't fly planes unless someone else pays you to do it for a living.

A guy friend and I went into the first one with a group of college aged girl. We laughed at the terrible dialogue and forced romance because we came in with no prior fandom or knowledge of the source material. The one other guy in the theater on the opposite side of us echoed our reactions after likely suppressing his own at first in order to keep his balls intact. Meanwhile we were getting some serious stink eye from whole rows of women for our reactions. And the swooning..was something else, given how creepy Pattinson's character came off. One of the more strange and amusing theater experiences. Some of the girls in the group were avid fans and ####ing hated us. That same guy friend and I went for a follow up viewing of the second one if I recall, strictly to troll, and he brought and wore a shirt that said "I heart boys who sparkle". We were dickheads, but we enjoyed it.
