Cap savings is the key, Knights like Tampa require assistance.

Re: cap recapture if he retires
Hockey Central on Fan 590 says there would be none (not a 35+ contract according to Jeff Marek)

Instead, because they were so diligent, he may just retire and now you’ve completely bailed Vegas out.

If he simply retires, he'd be walking away from the final year of his contract. The cap hit would just go away and Chicago would pay him nothing.
If he doesn't want to go to Chicago, I wonder if he'd be open to going back to Pittsburgh, and if the Hawks would be willing to retain part of his salary to make it happen?

It doesn't really cost them anything.

Maybe this is it? Tying their wagon to Robyn Lehner may not be the best idea. He looked very average next to Fleury last year.

The Flames first rounders, well that's another story.

Most definitely Buffalo will want younger pieces over older ones, they seem to be planning for the future and picking up 30+ year old players doesn't really fit that.

Go back to another team that "stabbed him in the back"? Lol.
Walsh is such a drama queen.

The very good news here is that Fleury will be taking his 7-1 record v the Flames with 3 shutouts in eight games out of Vegas, and possibly out the NHL for good.

Watch Vegas land Eichel and Landeskog somehow.

I hope they do and still can't win the cup.
I hope they never win a cup.

Nope. You contact the players before you file a trade. That is the SOP. And Fleury, as the face of the franchise and the reigning Vesina winner, deserves at least that and more

I sure hope Vegas doesn't land either of Landeskog and/or Eichel. For one thing, Lehner looks shaky for the past couple of seasons. So, they'll need to look for at least a half decent backup. Taking Eichel would mean pretty much ripping apart what they've built for a championship cup run teams. Plus the Knights first rounders are pretty low end anyway. Their goal is to win a cup before the owner croaks. They may add Landeskog but I hope the Flames sign him before the Knights do. The way I see it, Knights may be shopping for a goalie to replace Lehner or a backup that may compete with Lehner for the goalie spot. It's a tweak of what they currently have. They can't be serious about getting another franchise player on the team.

Man, it's cute how Vegas has a reputation for being a target team for players to want to play/sign for, yet, another example of treating key guys like crap.
The fact that Fleury learned about this via twitter, and apparently no one from the knights org reached out to him directly (as is what appears to be the case based on tweets from his agent, etc), is pretty brutal.

I doubt he retires
Also, would you take a Vegas first rounder or a Flames first rounder....I don't think Eichel is going there, probably Getzlaf and Landeskog

Have to believe they will try for one or both - their team is aging and their window is now.
I would guess Landeskog because they don't have to give up assets to get him, and signing him is a huge slap to their rivals.
