They can take both johansen and Gio
Gio is a no brainer, nothing negative, all positive
Johansen is 90% negative

So when you combine that with Francis more than hinting that he values cap space as much or more than players at this point, it is no slam dunk they take any large contracts.
Taking 20 players to get to 48 million will not be difficult at all.

Don't forget, Seattle has a 3 day exclusive window to talk with any UFA to see what a signing would look like.
Landeskog would not be a wasted pick as the Kraken would already have a deal in place when they pick him. Same with any other UFA. If they sign, pick him, if not, don't.
Not a wasted pick.

Kraken takes Gio and turns around and flips him to Vancouver for Schmidt.

I would say he was bad while playing with Andersson. He was good towards the end of the season, playing with Tanev.

If you look at who the Flames left exposed, that's a lot of meh players and they had to put Gio on that list just because he's older maybe. He's arguably still the Flames best player.

Bet this is the case too, pretty sure Gio wants to remain a Flame and serrano's would have been discussed with Seattle. Doubt Sutter wants to let go of Lucic but if they had to choose Flames would counter with Ryan or Oliver, Lucic.

Will be sad to see Gio go, but lets be realistic, he probably has a better shot at winning in Seattle than Calgary. Not a ton of sand left in the hourglass.

So the Flames totally ignore analytics and refuse to back away from the mistakenly given Andersson contract?

Or pick Gio and trade him back to the Flames for Valamaki and/or Mackey.
Once the Kraken has him they could auction him off to the highest bidder.
How good does Gio look playing with Brodie in Toronto?
Part of the deal would be to pick Kerfoot or McCann rather than Dermont.
The the Kraken retain a few bucks and get Muzzin for Gio

Dude I don't get how you keep harping on this. Is it really unusual for a young dman to have an off season?
Let's not give him a chance at all though and rag on him all the time.
