How better can the Kraken spend that extra $3M instead of picking up a guy who carried a team on his back to the finals?

So he will only cost 13 million this season.
Yeah that makes it better.

Doubtful. Gio only has one year left on his deal and is the easiest veteran player to absorb because they can flip him at the deadline with ease on an expiring deal. All the other players have more years on their contract and represent a level of risk. I can't see them picking Price because of the cap hit and the fact that he's struggled in the regular season. His heroic playoff play doesn't really matter if a team doesn't get into the playoffs.

Are we going to have an expansion draft pool once the protection lists are out?

I think he's hoping to get picked.
For the reasons you stated, plus there is a pretty solid chance that the Kraken are better than the Habs next season.

I want to see Seattle take Price then flip him with retained salary for a good piece to a division rival of the Habs like the Leafs.

$5,750,000 x 2 = $11,500,000.
$10,500,000 x 5 = $52,500,000.
Either the difference between those numbers is a lot more than $3 million, or I've forgotten how to math.
And there is something to be said for building a team that doesn't need to be carried on anyone's back.

It was $5,750,000 when Vegas took him from Pittsburgh, and there were only two years left on that deal.

Price has a NMC. He probably wouldn’t go for that.

Price is only waiving his NMC for expansion. If he gets selected his NMC is still active. No flipping unless Price okays it, which I wouldn’t expect.

Is this Tarasenko move be the equivalent of the Flames leaving Monahan exposed?
Would Seattle have taken him?
Two injury proned top 6 forwards with a couple of years left on their contracts.

Well, it was a joke, but nevertheless I meant it in regards to your comment of the Cost-Benefit analysis being positive. It isn't your analysis to make, so your conclusions are nothing more than your opinion.

But he might want to win a cup and might see himself as the missing piece for a team like the Leafs.
I just wonder if the Leafs are having those discussions right now with Seattle and Price. They need a goalie badly and you can’t do better than Price.
This is the type of move that would add so much to the history of the Leafs-Habs rivalry.

I never said I did any cost-benefit analysis. Surely Francis and his staff would do so before completing such a deal. Unless you think they use tarot cards.

My first thought is that his family would take so much verbal abuse that they wouldn’t even consider this. That’s the last team in the league he’d waive for.

The Leafs are talking to Price? I know there’s allegations of tampering this year but wow, not likely.

My first thought is that if the Leafs add yet another $10-million player, they will have to fill out their roster with mannequins and hobos. They're already spending 41 percent of the cap on just three players.
