It sounds like a lot of their spread is coming from nightlife and parties. So while the Stampede grounds themselves may not be a problem, all the parties and events put on by others could be.

It sounds like around 75% of the new cases over there are in young people (under 30 crowd) who have much lower vaccination rates. While the case growth does suck it likely poses little threat in terms of severe outcomes.

But let's not forget we just went through a year and half global pandemic and even when health officials say X is safe or Y is ok, many people will still hesitate. You don't just drop that overnight. That's why many people are still masking when they go indoors, or choosing not to go to big events, etc. And I support them just as much as I support a family who went to the Stampede and it was a positive experience that made them feel normal. I support people being able to choose where their line is drawn in the sand, despite it possibly being different than mine.
And regarding Stampede attendance; yes hesitancy is playing a big role, but let's not forget there are a lot of people who are in a much different financial position than they were 2 years ago and that may be contributing as well. Not to mention, little to no tourists.

OK?
Thanks for agreeing...i guess.
Really strange post.
Anyhow, I was down there for 7 or 8 hours today...damn it was hot...but other than that? Good stuff. So good too see people out and doing normal things. Great too see some youngsters laughing....my biggest takeaway.
I encourage anyone who is thinking about it to go. No its not like last time you were there but its not a whole lot different. There is no danger though unless NN becomes a spreader which seems unlikely with the protocols in place.
Lots of food, beers were cold, ladies looked wonderful and a good time was had by all from what i witnessed.

I’m happy you had a good time at the stampede and it helped take some weight of the last 16 months off.
What you seem to be implying is people who don’t want to do that yet, even though they are vaccinated, are being ridiculous and should all be burning their masks and then heading down to the grounds immediately or heading out to eat or to a pub. That’s just something many people aren’t interested in doing at this moment.

The rodeo was packed today. After rodeo went to Nashville north where you need to prove vaccination status or take a rapid test. Then went to wild horse. Didn’t feel unsafe one time. Double vaxed though.

Negative. They put out a notice saying they were skipping this year, which you can read on their website landing page. I commend them for what I would imagine was a difficult choice.

I'm glad. Otherwise I'd have missed working there this year and I was available.
It's fun as hell babysitting thousand of crazy drunkards for 10 days. Exhausting, but fun.

I have gone to the Stampede 6/10 days each Stampede for the better part of 2 decades and can say that the rodeo was absolutely not packaged. For a first Saturday the Rodeo was probably 50% of what it typically is - especially given the weather yesterday. Also was at NN after and it seems they are capping capacity which is a good thing.

on saturday my son and some friends hit the stampede. i picked them up from teh ctrain station at around 1.30am. that is really late to be outside.
i also felt old picking him up.......
has anyone seen any attendance figures. i was looking the other day and could not find anything and i was curious. for some reason i am thinking that a typical day is around 90,000 while the busy days are 110,000

I don't see any benefit to organizers to release attendance, especially since they aren't forthcoming with their capacity limits or rules.
Too low and it will be declared it a failure, too high and they'll be criticized for ignoring safety.
Either way, I don't see any positive press coming from releasing the numbers.

I did 27 events in 13.5hours. The only times I ever stopped was at red lights. We've had extreme volume for a long time now, so this only bested my previous of 23, but to be fair at that point its not that you "can" do any more, you're max utilization already. We have extra resources on, but we are still sucking every single rural vehicle into the city. I waited 30 min on scene on a call before even getting someone assigned, and when I did it was from Strathmore.....and that was at midnight.

Their attendance figures were more for marketing and building hype than any kind of public service anyway.
It was more a way of saying "1 million came through our gates and you missed out, make sure you come next time"
Makes sense they aren't releasing numbers this year as it will make people further question the Stampede.

I saw 65K each day average on twitter.
EDIT: @knoxie84 with the Calgary Herald.
Versus 2019 record single day of 129K so roughly half? Maybe 60ish% of normal?

Personally, I think that should be considered a success this year.

Well, I didn't plan on going this year, but then I took my daughter (6.5) on Sunday. Not sure what our motivation was, but we wanted to go.
Figured there was some cloud and rain in the forecast, so it'd be quiet.
Arrived at 1pm, it was eerily empty and we practically had the place to ourselves. But then the rain never happened and the sun stayed out, so the crowds started growing.
In the end, I spent too much money, got sunburnt, my feet hurt, my daughter and I ate some junk food, went on some rides, and won a few prizes. We left at 5pm because the crowds were getting shoulder-to-shoulder and that felt weird and I didn't like it anymore... So basically a typical Stampede.
