This is just so crazy. The Blues are possibly the worst trade partners if Tkachuk has to be moved. They have zero young talent that fits for the Flames.
At the end of the day Tkachuk may want to go there, but who really cares if that's what he wants.

I still hope he signs long term in Calgary

If he is, I think he’s still a great player who had an abnormally bad shooting percentage in limited action last year. If the Flames could get a deal like Tarasenko, a 1st and Thomas (or potentially even more) for Tkachuk, I would seriously consider it. Tarasenko’s deal is only for two more years.

I’m prepared to be lambasted.

If he is complaining about how the Blues handled his injuries' he must still be having shoulder issues? Wouldn't that be a red flag especially considering his age?

Can't help but think all this stems from a bad 'rumour' Shane O'Brien read on Calgary Puck, or some similar fan forum.

You're not interested in Kyrou and Thomas? I feel like they are both quite valuable.

It sounds like he had to have 3 surgeries and be out for a long time. But now he's feeling healthy, which is why he played the last 10 games of the regular season and the 4 games in the postseason.

So what about a quasi-three way deal?

To St. Louis: Matthew Tkachuk ($7M)
To Calgary: Vladimir Tarasenko ($7.5M), Jordan Kyrou (RFA), Jake Neighbors ($867K)

Then...

To Washington: Vladimir Tarasenko ($7.5M), Sean Monahan ($6.375M)
To Calgary: Evgeny Kuznetsov ($7.8M), Anthony Mantha ($5.7M)

Gaudreau-Kuznetsov-Mantha
Dube-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Ruzicka-Backlund-Kyrou
Lucic-Ryan-Ritchie

In the system: Pelletier (LW), Neighbors (LW), Zary (C)

The same with Toronto. I would ask for Nylander, Amirov and their 2022 or 2023 1st. There is exactly zero pressure on Calgary.
There is zero pressure when Tkachuk signs a long term deal at 7.5 M. If he goes into next season unextended with his QO of 9M and wanting to force his way out of Calgary you might consider that a bit of pressure.

It would be risky to trade him until you see him on a Flames team without Gio as captain

Pass for me. We’ve had 7 seasons of Gaudreau-Monahan-______. Some good times. Some meh times. I personally would like to move on, even if simply from an entertainment perspective.

Tarasenko would probably be a good fit on the flames. We’ve been looking for a RW for quite some time. Question is whether he’s healthy. Just like Eichel. Guess the second question is who do you have to give up. The speculation is Tkachuk. If he really doesn’t want to be around I think it’s probably a good move if St. Louis sweetens the pot somehow. A pick or keeping salary.

If the flames could get a second or 3rd line center in return for Monahan I think that would be a pretty good shuffle in the forward group. I think Mangiapane is ready to take a step next season. Maybe even Dube.

Gaudreau Lindholm Tarasenko is a pretty good first line. Then it gets hazy.

????? Backlund Mangiapane

Lucic ?????? Dube

?????? ?????? ??????

Man. While I’m writing this I’m realizing how many holes the flames have in their forward group. Either way if Tarasenko is healthy I think he’s a good fit.

These are the parameters of a deal that make some sense. Tarasenko the bigger question mark, makes more money and is older. But at his best, he has been better than Monahan ever has. I'd want the Blues to add.

But Tarasenko may have no interest in Calgary and Blues no interest in Monahan.

I'm not sure if Tarasenko is the bigger question mark. He finished the season healthy and playing. Monny did not.

Ya, the Blues doctors didn't get it done the first two so he had a successful 3rd. With todays advances in surgery he should be just as good as before the surgery but there is a small risk he isn't the same player. That being said I would not entertain a Tkachuk deal with the Blues. Now if they want to swap Tarasenko for Monahan I would fax that in the minute it was proposed if I was BT.

Tarasenko wants out and we want Monahan out of Gaudreau’s life. Those are the incentives.

No way we trade Tkachuk for him

I would be okay if the Blues retained $1M on the cap to pretty much balance out the current cap and then went 1 for 1

Leafs offer is very far off. Nylander has term on his deal and amirov is a much higher rated prospect than the blues have.

Not sure how the Flames have no pressure on them? They have 2 years sure but the last year could be at $9 mil and a rental player. You also must be assuming the rumours Tkachuk wants out are bs which could be true.
The pressure is on the team who wants to acquire the player, not the team who has him. It isn't the two year window or the contract even, it is the fact that a bunch of other teams are also trying to bid for that player. If Tkachuk is put on the market there will be no shortage of bidders.

Tarasenko
Thomas
Kyrou
Kostin
2021 first round #16

Tkachuk
Monahan

Does not feel like enough for the Flames because it is quantity over quality, but for the Blues they would not give up the assets like these because they still view Tarasenko as a solid top six player.

Opens up cap room and helps to fill that middle six with an upgrade in youth, speed, and talent. Excellent depth can be better than a single great player.
