That's points in back-to-back games for Zavgorodniy and two points for Phillips today.

I disagree. He's still elite when it comes to how he uses his stick defensively.

He's slowing down for sure, but he breaks up so many shots and passes it's ridiculous. It's the least sexy part of playing defense, but he's still elite at it.

Hell, offensively he's still leading the D in goals and assists.

It is jarring how his mistakes/giveaways are frequently the most damaging, despite how much he clearly GAF out there.

Body and mind not in sync these days.

Leading the D in points but OK.

He made up for the failed clear with a good block and a subsequent control of the puck.

Nice. Tuned in around the 9 minute remaining mark of the period to see a heck of a shirt by gaidreau setting up Lindholm for a chance from behind the net.

Thats the Gaudreau we need. Down low, helping out board battles.

Solid first period.

The team is starting to look better with each game under Sutter. The risk was that there weren't enough games left in the season for him to implement change and get results. And that is exactly what will transpire (unless they go on a crazy run).

Nonetheless, they are starting to look like the team many of us thought they were going to be at the start of the season.

Is Loubardias out sick or something? Or is this a permanent change?

The unexpected break from the postponed games was something they needed BADLY under the new coach.

There was no time to implement a meaningful transition before that, let alone catch their breath.

If they make a miracle happen, that there is your turning point.

Still doing some things well, but his footspeed is a big problem, and his decision making is sometimes less than optimal. I wouldn't protect him in the expansion draft.
