Pretty clear what this teams issue is.
Amongst the big four Lindholm has been the best by far
His goal total is down but he’s ahead of his point pace for last year
He can be better but more blame needs to be shouldered by others

Flames have played 14 games under Sutter.

In that time 65 goalies have played over 150 minutes, among those goalies Markstrom ranks:

Save Percentage: .883 (55th)
HDSV%: 0.734 (58th)
MDSV%: 0.849 (58th)
LDSV%: 1.00 (T-1st)
Goals Saved Above Average: -8.24 (63rd)

Still elite at stopping the Low Danger shots and hasn’t let in a softy but man has he not made the big save or even the medium danger save since Sutter became coach.

In that same time here is the team as a whole

xGF%: 50.4% (13th)
Corsi For %: 53.24% (10th)
High Danger Corsi %: 48.5 (14th)
HDCF per 60: 9.21 (23rd)
HDCA per 60: 9.79 (10th)
xGF per 60: 2.42 (16th)
xGA per 60: 2.39 (13th)

Shooting Percentage: 7.66 (27th)
Save Percentage: .886 (28th)

Matches the eye test to me. The team has been stingy defensively but they can’t score offensively and they haven’t gotten a big save at all.

Overall the story here I think is the team just isn’t talented enough, or deep enough.

So... not promising.

Goalie - below average.
Defence - below average.
Forwards - below average.

Wonder why we aren’t winning....

This team man, I tell ya. Just struggles to create any offense. Didn't see this coming at the start of the season. Baffling

As for this game. Flames are still not very good.
Argh. In a year where the scouting is questionable because there has been so little hockey played compared to normal.

Whichever guy is big, plays center and can skate... yeah take that guy.

Without the lottery, do the Flames have to finish bottom-2 to draft ahead of Seattle?

Seattle is annoying already. Why can't they be like Arizona.

Top 4 are all D so maybe it’ll work.

Yeah but going on and about it...honestly what goalie would look good playing on this team.

You are on the lowest scoring team but they also don't defend. They lose every battle in front of the net.

All scramble goals tonight with guys allowed to whack away. It's not even getting beaten on actual shots.

Seattle gets the third slot for the lottery odds
So the Flames could finish behind them but move up in the lotto
As if that would ever happen to the Flames though
We will finish 7th and drop three slots and draft 11th overall including Seattle
This is the way

That’s wild. And so, so disappointing. Was looking forward to maybe top 10 goaltending this year?..But then doing a deep dive into Markstrom’s career and you see a guy who’s never actually had great stats. Or been top 10 in any major categories. You start to wonder why he was so highly regarded or why the Canucks just let him walk...

These numbers just confirm to me that it’s not the goaltending. He’s not really letting in a whole ton of soft goals, and the eye test shows that the defensive breakdowns in front of him are catastrophic.

I’m not suggesting our goalies are lights out, but the team is hanging them out to dry. Big time.

He’s still a top 10-12 goalie in this league. If Tre put the word out that he was available, the phones would be ringing off the hook. The Leafs would likely hand over Nylander ++ in a package for Markstrom. He’s likely the most valuable trade asset the organization has, but they’d be foolhardy to even consider it.

Ah, what am I thinking anyways?

It’s time to trust the process. This team is close, no matter what the results say. We were in on 31 deals this summer, but all that was really needed is some minor tweaks for depth. This team is better than their record.

Did I get Tre’s opening press conference remarks on October 1, 2021 right?
Do it Brad!!

I noticed that.

Oh god, I hope we wouldn't take one of them given the D we picked in the early-mid rounds last year.

Hopefully we'll learn from the Bennett pick and make sure the player has ample hockey sense.

I wonder if Flames get a top 2 pick - does it make sense to trade with ~5th spot for their 1st & 2nd - or is that still dreaming?

What fascinates me is that 1.0 LDSV% ranks fifth.

I had expected T-1st

Who is better?

Listening to Sutter's interviews is so interesting. To me, it seems like conditioning is an issue for this team when he mentions there is lots of work for this team to do to be able to play a full season.

They let him walk because they have Demko.

Good thing I got a call from my son and his wife who just got the keys to their first home purchase today, just after the Flames tied the game at 2-2...and had a nice walk-through with them. Saw the rest of the disaster on FF afterwards. Doing a zoom walk-through was MUCH more fun.

This team. Sheesh. They may never win again.
