Or Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangiapane
Lucic-Bennett-Phillips
Nordstrom-Dube-Gawdin/Robinson
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ryan (Ryan - Gaudreau has clicked I think)
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane (Matchup with offense)
Lucic - Bennett - Dube (Heavy forecheck)
Nordstrom/Simon - Backlund - Phillips (Matchup with someone to fuel 11's offense)

I will be surprised if Phillips does not get at least a few NHL games this year, but people need to remember that he was still finding his stride after coming back from an injury when the season was suspended last year, and then hadn't played since. He needs to get at least a few games in at this level before he is ready to make the jump to the big club.

Dube has almost 50 lbs on Philips.

Mangiapane almost 45.

Philips is TINY...again he would easily be the smallest guy in the league....maybe ever.

I’m assuming no Ryan for quite a while.

People pay too much attention to height and not enough to heft. Some short guys are fireplugs and absorb hits better than tall skinny ones.

He's three inches taller than Nathan Gerbe.

I think Phillips has been listed as 140 pounds on hockey db since he was drafted. I wonder if he's gone up.

It's not the size of the dog in fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

Same can be said for Dmitri Zavgorodny and Jakob Pelletier.

Size matters. A LOT. Look at the teams in the SCF in the last 10 years. When hockey becomes non-physical, and 50/50 battles no longer exist, then size won't matter. When any player gets drafted, size is STILL a consideration, and more often than not-small players lose draft position because of it.

But when they can emerge they are great. I suspect a huge percentage of late round picks who blossom into top NHlers are smallish. Fleury, Gaudreau, Point, Marchand, Arvidsson, Johnson.

Yup, those are guys you really cheer for-especially guys like Fleury, and Marchand-who play like they're 6'3". Jordin Tootoo was an enforcer, and he was what-5'9"or something? Pat Verbeek was another one.

You may be too young to remember Stan Jonathan. Maybe the toughest guy in the league, 5’8”.

I've heard of him, but never got to see him play. I'm 46, may I ask how old you are?

I'm not getting your point. You've established that he's small, but what is the implication of that? Is it that he's so small that they shouldn't even give him a chance?

If he proves doubters such as yourself then great. The team has another good player. Overall make up of the team too small? Not a problem, trade some of that small skill for more size up front.

Can't play? Too bad, I guess give Ritchie another shot. Is there a downside that I'm missing?

Patrick Kane is 5'10 - 175lbs and won 2 cups in those years along with a Conn Smyth. skill also matters A LOT.
