I prefer Tanev over Gus. Only because we have enough shooters. Gio, Hanifin, Andersson, Nesterov, Kylington. We needed a more prominent defensive presence. Especially since Brodie left. Who was great at covering the back end when Gio pushed offensively.
It'll be interesting to see this year if Gio relinquishes some offense to Andersson and he covers the back end now. Seems like a good thing to do as the oldest guy on the team.

Tanev is top 4 based upon reputation.
I doubt he performs at a top 4 level for even his first season.
I will be very happy if I am wrong.

He has been in the league for 10 years, most of those years on a bad team and has only been a minus player one time.
He is a very good defender
