I chose Dallas as one of my buddies is a die hard Stars fan and the trash talk between us will be glorious Also at this point of the playoffs it really doesn't matter who we face. The boys on the ice have to beat the best to be the best, so skill wise I don't care who the Flames face. But for sheer fun on a bun I go with Dallas.

Neither team is going to be an easy series.
I said Dallas in the poll, but now I am leaning toward St. Louis. I really don't know.... If I go by paper, I want to say Dallas just based on how their roster lines up with ours. But the recent eye test is making me lean towards St. Louis. But since the Blues and Stars are just jostling for position right now with nothing really at stake, I am not sure the recent eye test matters. I do wonder if Tkachuk gets more pumped to play against the Blues though.
I actually didn't want the Avs match-up last season, but I still thought we would have a decent chance to win it. They were hot going into the playoffs last year. I would have never predicted that we would be beat so decisively, that is for sure.

Don't care sooner or later you have to meet someone that's just as strong or stronger. If your good enough to go deep you gotta beat someone good.
Watching the "round Robins" is mind bending. No hitting....seemingly at all. I've only watched 2-3 periods tops but these aren't even exhibition game level for hits. In exhibiition some kids out to make a name. If anyone gets hit in these games its accidental, defensemen aren't pinning forwards on the boards, forwards aren't trying to nail defenders and separate the puck. Its weird almost All Star game rules. Everones just cruising past each other behind the goals, a real lack of battle!
Makes me wonder if we won't see a few 1st round upsets again with the top 8 maybe all skating well, but they may as well be playing inter squad games for the complete lack of physicality they are displaying.
Maybe I just missed the penalty filled round robin game? Was there one? I'm asking.

You raise a very interesting point here. There's no desperation among the round robin teams due to the format. Going into the next series, the round robin teams will be facing some battle-tested qualifiers. The Flames have a nice thing going and I expect to see whomever they play to be on their heels and banged around in Game One.
There will definitely be some upsets, there always are.
Go Flames Go!

Sorry if I missed this, but any word on scheduling next week? There will be 4 series per hub so I assume 2 series going per day in Edmonton. Are they going to both be going in the evening? Eg 4:45 and 8:30?

I voted for Dallas because on paper it's a better match-up for us.
However, I am feeling good about either opponent simply because we have just played meaningful hockey vs Winnipeg and are on a roll with our confidence. Neither Dallas or St. Louis have played meaningful hockey for a long time.
Last year we 'coasted' to the actual playoffs and were ousted by a team that was 'hot' leading up to the playoff's.
Bring it on.

The book on Calgary is intimidate them with physicality. Both St. Louis and Dallas have the horses for that. The flames are going to have to show some mean streak I have yet to see from this group to proceed

Did you just miss the series against the Jets?
The Flames ran them through the boards and out of the rink.
Weird take.

They didn't, we were ahead. But they had games in hand, so got "pro-rated" ahead of us.

I'm kind of afraid to play the Stars because of Pavelski and Radulov... seems to me they like playing against the Flames. And of course, that dork Perry.

St. Louis please and thank you; beating the defending champs would be a huge momentum push for the team as they march ahead here. What I’m predicting:
Qualifier
Flames vs Jets : 3-1 Series win
1st Round
Flames vs St. Louis
2nd Round
Flames vs Vancouver (Chicago shocks Vegas, Colorado beats the yotes setting up a Hawks/Avs 2nd round while the Nucks handle a slumping Stars team setting up a Flames/Nucks 2nd round)
3rd Round
Flames vs Avalanche (Chicago falls short setting up a rematch the Flames could only have dreamed of in order to punch a ticket to the cup)
4th Round
Flames vs Flyers (All the trade Gaudreau and Flyers hype would make this matchup for the cup quite fun and what a set of teams to play through!)

I still think that should have been a good match-up. Calgary's issues with Colorado last year had little to do with skill, and mostly to do with the players making it work for them.
The team that just beat Winnipeg looks like the one we all expected to see last April, but which failed to show up.

Not taking much from beating the jets. Particularly since they lost good players to injury.
