Lots of chances, were better in X, couldn't execute/bury.
That's not and has never been an endorsement. Given how often it appears in conversation given the pattern of results it's clearly a major issue.

It's really hard to overstate just how badly Jankowski got caved in tonight.
3:21 TOI at 5v5. The Flames had two shot attempts... the Oilers had seven.
17.85% expected goal share for Jankowski tonight, by leaps and bounds the worst of any player on the Flames. Taking him out of the lineup will lead to massive additon by subtraction, IMO.

Sign Hall.
Trade Gaudreau for a package including a young promising centre.
Sign Lehner.
Hire Laviolette.
The solution is so simple

You can out chance every team in the league. That doesn't mean ####. No finish and no goaltending, you're ####ed.

Hiring the right coach has never been simple for this organization. They get it right about once every 15 years.

Maybe a change of scenery will spark him but he's fast tracking himself into an AHLer.

Not going to argue too much over a game that doesn't count but they will have to be a lot better in the opener.

The chances were 22-12 in favor of the Flames...the Oilers weren't "far superior"
They will have to be better...exhibition vs. first game of the playoffs
If the game was reversed I guarantee you wouldn't be saying the Flames were far superior despite the score

He's just getting older now. Plus it's nostalgia, I grew up listening to that dude call big Flames/West playoffs and CFL playoffs. Even hearing his voice now gives me butterflies from huge games gone by. Love that guy.
I felt the same way about Bob Cole in later years when Easterners on Twitter were still thinking he's amazing.. its pure nostalgia, he barely knew what was going on anymore. Either you grew up and experienced it, or you didn't.

Well god damn it that was a fun game to watch on a scorcher of a day in Calgary! Let's not get overly critical. This is a unique time in history when the chips are down for humanity and it's great all these players showed to give us some entertainment.
I'd like to critique the mosquitos for ruining the backyard viewing experience at dusk forcing me inside for the third. Also, the Flames did outplay the Oilers who are always REMARKABLY great in exhibition games and early season. We'll see you at the hub. Lol.

Flames need to tweak their depth pieces up front too imo. Guys like Rinaldo, Rieder, Jankowski aren't quite good enough for a team that wants to be contending.

Hanifin with a 37.67 xGF% tonight, Andersson with a 75.63.
Shot attempts 18-10 EDM with Hanifin on the ice, 17-13 CGY with Andersson
That's a really big disparity for two guys who spent a lot of time on the ice together. I'd be willing to bet the Hanifin-Andersson pairing at least treaded water at 5v5... but not a great night for Noah otherwise.

It is a short series with the Jets. Simply need to win game 1 and don’t look back. Have to bury our chances for sure and just get some solid goaltending.
I’m pretty damn excited for game 1.

Perfect 13th forward/guy who can jump in at a moments notice but otherwise I agree.

Hanifin's made me nervous for quite a while now. I wouldn't be sad at all if he were involved in a trade this offseason.

It’s not the same Cuthbert as the CBC days. He spent so many years at TSN, who constantly pushed the need for creating drama or having a storyline to pump up within every game, that he feels he has to tell a story and pump something up that doesn’t need pumping up for the audience, and that takes away from his natural play calling ability, and yes, he is older.
Look at guys like McGuire, Ferraro who liked to hear their own voice and go on and on about some general point they bring up, and rode that point through the game to sound smart.
Cuthbert has been the same with CFL, with the Stamps being so dominant the last 15 years, it’s not an interesting storyline within the game. Add in a color guy who has always hated the Stamps and Cuthbert seems to get caught up in the underdog story.
Sportsnet of course, now, does the same as far as national hockey broadcasts, during the intermission and in play by play, so Cuthbert won’t have to change that style.
Ball, on the other hand, is Cuthbert when he was in his CBC days, interesting, impartial, pays attention to the game on the ice and intracicies, and has the right pitch and the right amount of emotion when the game calls for it.
