There's a great campground in Kaslo which offers the same walkability. The campground is pretty basic, but being able to walk to town, beaches, skate/bike part, etc. is awesome. Highly recommended.

Anyone recommend a good place for trailer inspections, ideally around Cochrane or west Calgary? My parents have an 90s trailer that came with a property they purchased, however we are unsure of its roadworthiness.

They have gone too far. I have to wonder, you may have a place to sleep, but where are you supposed to put the rest of your gear?

A friend of mine has one of those and loves it. They have an suv though, so easier to pack gear. They did a 3 week trip across a couple provinces and had a great time. I guess it I would be way easier and more efficient than pulling a trailer.

My friends were not really camping though, more visiting and sightseeing and always had a bed. They like it because they were off the ground, away from critters.

It’s not for me, and even if it was I wouldn’t put it on my sports car.

I just don’t get the point

All the inconvenience of setting up a tent with all the inconvenience of having to pack up every time you move your car like a motorhome all to solve the problem of afraid of mice????? Nice who can just crawl up on your car???

What’s the use case?

It folds into the hard case that stays on top of your car, so it’s a fair bit more convenient than setting up a tent or taking one down. Generally, they feel more comfortable and I guess safer (depending on where you’re camping, though I’ve never felt unsafe really in a tent) than regular tents.

For a Porsche specifically though, some of those benefits are probably lost a little bit, but same basic idea.

It makes sense for the benefits you mentioned but the biggest negative is that the vehicle is stuck at the campsite unless you pack up. For me that is a no-go because when we go camping we are usually going out and seeing different things and not just sitting around the campsite/campground. I would not want to arrive and set it up, sleep the night, pack up the next morning and do our thing only to have to set up again when we get back.

I see your point, but we are talking about less than 5 minutes to take down or se up.

LOL, these roof tents are like Jeep Wranglers. 70% of the people that buy them, instantly regret them.

Every year, I get 5 or 6 people trying to rope me into taking these thing off their hands on their trade-in for 'only' $2-3000 more on their trade value as it "Doesn't suit our lifestyle". aka: "It's completely useless for normal camping."

I seems neat and cute and cozy, like the tiny house fad was, until people realize how utterly cramped and useless it is. Save yourself the trouble, and spend $200 at crappy tire for a 4-6 man tent, and camp comfortably, instead of the $3-4000 they want for these things so you can suffer in discomfort, and potentially damage your car.

A ridiculous concept for a 911 or similar sports car. 99.9% of 911 owners would never dream of tenting on the car (let alone camping).

So we just wrapped up the first summer of trailer ownership. Begrudgingly I'd say it was better than expected - had some great trips.

At the start I wasn't prepared for all the gear and accessories that we needed but worked our way through it all. My best purchase was the Level Mate Pro auto level. It along with the curved ramp blocks made levelling so easy with the bluetooth app on the phone. Best purchase of the year.

LOL, wait until the spring, and finding the 3 things that mysteriously broke over the winter. Every. Single. Spring. I'm fixing something that broke just sitting in storage.

I’m the dumbass .1%. Would really like to have a bike rack for the 911 though, would use it a lot more than a tent.

Racks should be easy enough to find no?

Bumping this one. Anyone have any recommendations for seasonal campground rentals within 2-3 hours of Calgary? We want to give it a try for a summer or two to see if we like going to the same place all summer.

Wilderness Village is pretty nice and Crimson Lake is a great place. I don't know how difficult it is to get a spot though.

We thought about that one and you don't get a spot there so we wouldn't be able to leave the trailer set up and bring out a grill or anything like that. I want to avoid the whole having to bring everything out with me and pack the trailer up every time.

I thought they did seasonal rentals. I guess I am wrong.

It was explained to me that members get a guaranteed spot but not the same spot, which is why you don't see any sites with decks built or anything like that.
